Due to icy conditions and low traction, I revved my engine really high while the clutch was only partially engaged. Immediately after, there was a burning smell, which I assumed was the clutch.
The smell is gone and the car still shifts smoothly, but there seems to be a loss of friction when I engage the clutch, and the engine doesn't rev as high when I downshift from higher speeds. Long story short, I'm afraid there is some slippage going on.
This is a brand new VW Rabbit with only 1000 miles. Do I need to have the clutch inspeced and perhaps replaced in order to prevent future problems, or can this damage be chalked up to normal wear and tear?

You can't really inspect a clutch like you can brakes. It would involve seperating the transmission from the engine, the same as replacing a clutch.
Your clutch is either slipping or not slipping. The check for a slipping clutch is by trying to accelerate at speed without downshifting. If the engine rpms rise faster than your car is actually accelerating, then it is definitely slipping. (and it will be expensive, VW service IS very expensive!!)
I don't know if Vdubs have hydraulic clutches or solid linkages(cables), in any case, an event like that would wear on your clutch quite a bit. So if you have a clutch master cylinder(hydraulic) you should check the level in the resivoir, you'll probably have to add some brake fluidto the resivoir. (a cable would have to be adjusted)
If you're really lucky they'll warranty it, if it is damaged.(I doubt it)
Just try and verify if it is actually slipping. If it is take it in and see how much it will cost($$$). You could just drive it until it didn't engage at all, then spend the money. In the mean time, I hope you learned what not to do.
Sorry about you new car

First, you need to learn how to drive. Why would you ever rev the engine really high in icy conditions? You probably polished the clutch plates to a high gloss. If they're not worn you can rough them up again, but new ones are so cheap, and if you already had the thing apart, it would be crazy not to replace them.

with only 1000 miles on it, I would not worry about it, you may have smoked the clutch a bit, but it is fine. as you should have changed the oil at 500 miles, you can wait 'till the 3000 mile oil change to have it inspected.

First, verify the fuse to the AC...then verify relay, and persist with the circuit out. From the fuse to the AC connection.... must be interior the ac swap if it has one...do no longer understand approximately ninety 8 olds bravada, you will possibly be able to verify at library to be sure in the event that they have motor vehicle books (chilton or automobiles, etc) and spot in case you may get a wiring diagram.

You could have glazed the clutch surface, take it in and have it fixed under warranty, see if you can talk them into a new pressure plate and throw out bearing too.
