When this happens the check engine light (& sometimes the check trans light) comes on. If I leave the car off for a couple of hours, the problem "resets" and the car & tranny works fine. If I drive locally (within 10-15 min) the car has no problems. Sometimes it drives fine for about an hour before this happens. Is it electrical?

For some reason after I turn on a turn signal, and then it resets to the neutral position (no turn signal position) I still hear the flasher cube clicking on and off; only at a much higher rate of speed than it would with the turn signals on. The turn signals are functioning just fine, but I obviously have some sort of problem. Is it a short, or do I need a new Flasher cube. The car is realitivley young (2003 VW Jetta with 60k on it). The problem only started last night.

RUNS AND SHIFTS GREAT ON SHORT TRIPS THROUGH TOWN. WHEN I DRIVE FOR 30 MIN. OR MORE AND COME TO A STOP LIGHT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT DOWN ALL THE WAY. THE CAR WANTS TO KEEP GOING FORWARD AND IF I KEEP ON THE BRAKE IT WILL KILL ON ME. I CAN SHIFT IT TO NEUTRAL TO KEEP IT RUNNING, BUT WHEN I GO TO TAKE OFF I HAVE TO GIVE IT LOTS OF GAS AND SLAM IT INTO DRIVE. VERY BAD I KNOW. THEN IT WILL BE FINE FOR ANOTHER MILE OR TWO. FLUID LEVEL IS FINE, FLUID COLOR IS FINE AND DONT SMELL BURNT.

I have a 1992 Jimmy 4.3 CPI 4x4. The oxygen sensor has made my fuel mixture rich and my exhaust pipe after the Y pipe has rotted off. I dragged the pipe out from underneath the vehicle, due to scrapping. It sounds pretty loud when, I deliver machinery parts from one store to another. I don't have money to get a new exhaust since this has happened today. Can I drive this vehicle, with a rich fuel mixture coming out of the exhaust, for a week? Or am I at great risk of causing a fire hazard?
