In a word yes.Computer need to see air movement to trigger injector pulse

A mass air flow sensor could do that, but a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor is not likely to cause the vehicle to not start.

I believe you are referring to the m.a.f. sensor. it stands for mass air flow.
