1999 ford taurus running erratic. Revving up and down. Changed the Air mass flow sensor. I ran for a month with very little rev problems. All of a sudden, the car dies a few seconds after starting it or putting into drive. It will start up and run but then put it into drive, it dies. HELP!!!

If the car is reving up and down, look for a vacuum leak, preferably at the PCV line as I have seen these cars with loose or deteriorated rubber vacuum lines. Also check for loose hose or loose connector in the maf to t/b line....

On a second thought... check the fit of the air filter box and make sure the little dome is in there properly and secure... Ford had a TSB out saying that on tauruses you can have issues such as you described as well as a check engine light due to not putting the air cleaner box on right.

Most likely your check engine light is on too. Take the car somewheres to have the codes read. But don't go buying parts yourself as the code may say one thing but something else may be causing the fault. Don't want to burst your bubble but this can be an expensive problem unless you are extremly lucky. Would recomend you go to a Ford garage for this . Good Luck
