I've just taken my mums car in for it's MOT. The Tester did it all, on his own.
When ever I've taken my car to a MOT station, 2 people work on it, cus 1 usually sits in it, & wiggles the steering wheel, puts lights on etc. while the Tester looks underneath to check the stearing & bearings etc.
I know I should've asked him if it was leagal to do it alone, but he was a bit of an a-ss

i brought my car in to get rear pads and rotors and caliper sliders the owner of the garage quoted me at $280 $45 for pads , $90 for rotors and $40 for sliders plus 64.95 for 1 hrs labour half way through the mechanic working on it was having a hard time with 1 caliper piston to get it to go back in so the owner says you might need new calipers and calls his parts store to see if he can get them they have none in stock so he says to get them to work he'll have to charge me an extra hrs labour and that will save me $180 per caliper for new ones. 20 mins later the mechanics got the caliper back on and the other one gave him no problem at all, and he still charged me the extra hr the total bill came to $354 with tax .
even though the whole job took over 2 hrs was it wrong for the mechanic to do this since he told me 1 hrs labour at the beginning
and was i over charged for the sliders and rotors (the rotors are standard grade) any advice would be helpful this is on a 93 accord

Many cars driven today have engine light on problems and
the majority reason is because of emission fault of some
type or another because of the oxygen sensor: here in
panama the emission laws do not exist, so can the car
with this problem be driven without damaging the engine
if say the engine light was deáctivated to where it would
not come on again because of emission fault. Gas quality
is not like in the states and because of it the engine light
will always come on after a time no matter weather
it is changed or not. How does one go about de-activating
the engine light permanently or is it recommended. TKS

I have a 1998 s70 volvo with 62200 miles on it, I drive it
about 4 times a month with less than 100 miles a month.
I changed the front brakes as it needed it but the back
breaks still look okay. At what mile on the speedometer
more or less will it be about the right time to change the
rear break pads? I have disc brakes both front and back
TKS.

It has been VERY cold here the past few mornings and when starting my car it took a few turns of the key for it to actually start up. The engine would turn over and stuff.. just not fire up at first. But after three or four attempts it would start and stay started just fine. However after driving it around a while, parking and trying to restart it, it would be fine until the next morning. What is wrong?

The last few morrings it has been at least 5 degrees and lower. When I go out to start my car it wont start. The starter turns over but my car wont fire. After I try about 5 or six times the battery dies and when i try to start the car, the starter makes a clicking sound. later on in the day when it warms up to around 15 degrees my car starts, but it idols rough then cuts off. When i restart it, it runs fine. My car is a 91 Chevy Caprice, and it is fuel injected. I took it to get the battery and altenator checked today and the guy said they where both fine. I put that Dry HEET stuff in my gas tank evreytime I fill up. I also noticed that my gas tank was under a half of tank. What is the source of the hard starting in the cold?

When 1. It's cold outside. 2. The idle is low--like when I am slowing down. Then sometimes, the wipers go on and off, the car tries to stall, the rpm's go up and down, I cannot accelerate, the headlights go on and off as well as the radio, the car jerks forward and then doesn't go and then jerks again. If I have slowed down and keep the RPM's up it will sometimes still do this but most of the time not. When coming to a stop without maintaining RPM's the car will stall. It will restart easily enough. I also have an auto start system; where I can start the car from far away by remote. Can anyone diagnos this problem? The car is an automatic. If you need more info email me.

I have a Actron code reader/eraser I have pretty much all the cables for obdII and chrysler/ford/GM obdI. I was wondering if maybe there was a special cable I could get for reading pre 96 foreign cars. I have read in a few places something about a ten pin or blink codes or something. Does anyone have any additional info please?

I bought a used car in June 2006 and the insurance expired at the end of December. I didnt know it b/c i didnt get any notification about it. I didnt use the car ever since b/c i went on vacation for winter break. When I came back 3 days i found the car was flooded and I towed it to a mechanic and sold it to him for $200. I returned the plate to DMV today but i forgot to ask about the insurance. I mean, will it affect me the next time i buy a car or will my license got suspended because of the lapse? What should I do?

Thanks a lot!
