what? do you mean if you put a bigger muffler on your car will you use more gas? no

It depends on the air flow thru the muffler under load. If you were interested in reducing the exhaust noise level, you would increase the number of baffles inside the muffler, and thus restrict the air flow. If you were only interested in performance, you would probably increase the air flow as much as possible. The size of the muffler does not always give a direct clue as to the fuel economy. Good fuel economy typically is determined by the number of engine Revolutions per mile in the top gear.

A muffler just muffles the noise.
