You don't need cables or scanner. Mazda doesn't offer live data, so the scanner is just an very expensive code reader.

You need an asian package for OBD1, the one my shop got was an upgrade and it was about $400 and that was 50% off because we just bought the scanner for it. Most parts places only use OBDII code readers, you're best bet is at a garage and pay for them to read it.

i own a repair shop,and you can buy the cable for for this one ,just make sure its one of the ones that goes back ,if it has the updated chip in it,it will work,,but if not,buying the cable wont help you none,,you can go to actrons web site ,and check to see if yours is the updated one,,i gave my old one away ,,because it couldn't be updated,,good luck i hope this help,s.

Since1996 all plugs have to be the same by law.You just have to have the chip or cable that is for Mazdas.

mazda and ford used what was called a ngs tester. a basic code tester. then they upgraded to the wds.

Most cars are different, but I would simply take it to AutoZone or some place like it. They will do it for free.
