I have a 72 Chevy pickup. It is not leaking oil but if burning it pretty good. I am looking for an easy solution without having to pay a mechanic a mint. I want a real solution and not add stop leak to the oil res. I know the block is not cracked.

I am opening a repair shop and was looking for some suggestions on what to do my first day. I was thinking of doing a free winter check: Check battery and antifreeze with free donuts and coffee. But would appreciate some suggestions. Its very cold and lots of snow still on the ground in my area. I want something to get peoples attention. Would using a small strobe like be stupid? I am not the mechanic by the way.

Headlites quit during ice storm. Highbeam lights illuminate when "flashed" "pulled back" so that bulb appears to work? Fuses seem ok? Thoughts appreciated.

Light has been on for four days. I took it to the local Toyota dealer. The code reader came up as the Fuel/Air sensor (same as O2 sensor I assume). The mechanic didn't seem to worried about it, reset it and said to drive it for a while. An hour later the light comes back on. Should I be spending the 150.00 or more to get the sensor changed when the car seems to be running just fine. Thanks in advance.

I have a 96 Dodge neon.
The battery lights comeup and then goes off after couple of days..
This problem occurs...almost every 2 months..

The car mechanics says, the battery and alternator and everything is looking fine...
When they load test..it..or test drive it...they couldn't get to reproduce the efffect..
Not sure why it happens..

any suggestions..pls?

note:
I changed my battery, alternator almost 5 months ago...for some other reason...
and they are in very good condition...

I heat the car for at least 5-10 mins before I start and use headlights and radio...while driving..
is that all drinking more power juice?

It started off by taking a really long time to warm up the gears, the drive gear would take long 2 pick up. Then one day we were driving I parked then it would not reverse at all. So the truck does not reverse does drive forward but only goes about 45mph and the engine sounds like you are really pushing it.
FINALLY now we're about 2 take it to be fixed but don't know if I need a overhaul (soft parts) or a rebuild (hard parts)?

I have a '77 Dodge Custom 4x4 with a 318 V-8 automatic transmission with 3 gears. I THINK it currently has a 4 barrel carb, but I'd like to take it down to a 2 barrel carb to save a bit of gas mileage AND to reduce the horsepower a bit so that it doesn't spin tires so bad in the cold weather here. I don't know what the current mileage is, but I'd guess it's around 15 mpg. What I want to know is a rough estimate of what the improvement on gas mileage would be... just a good guess is fine.

I believe the mechanical devices are operational, however when I push the button on my steering wheel to turn cruise control on, the light within the instrument cluster doesn't come on. Iv'e already checked the fuse, disconnected the harness plug on steering wheel column but didn't know how to proceed without a wiring diagram
Thanks in advance for your help

I have had a radiator flush and a heater core flush. Should I change the thermostat? Where is that located? Any other possibilities?

I have already tried hot water and dish soap (scrubbed forever). They have become rusted in the garage and are fairly new.

A couple of months ago after getting new brakes and rotors my car began jerking when I went up hills (occasionally on straight aways too). Inspection was due the next month so I took it back in to my mechanic and he said something vague about the "turbo" something in the "transmission". He recommended driving it in regular drive instead of overdrive and see if it still happened. Well it did. So Monday I took it to an AAMCO for a free external diagnostic. They said that I was leaking a great deal of transmission fluid (I'd never noticed it leaking neither did my mechanic) and the residue was burnt. They would have to take the transmission out to see what was wrong and to give me an estimate on repairs. The labor on this alone would be $600! I am on a very tight budget and cannot afford thousands of dollars of repairs. On the other hand I can't afford a new car either. Anybody with any experience with AAMCO or advice? I would appreciate it.

It also has a hand ful of times not shifted in to gear when I put it in drive so i shift to 2 then back to drive and it goes fine. could this be low fluid or is it maybe the rebuilt job is giving way. Or should i change fluid and filter? I had it rebilt in 2000 maybe have put about 40 miles on it so far i drive it only to work never out of town..thanks in advance for any info...
