rpms go up to 2.5 then down to .5 or 1 or so this happens some times not all the times. It also has a hand ful of times not shifted in to gear when I put it in drive so i shift to 2 then back to drive and it goes fine. could this be low fluid or is it maybe the rebuilt job is giving way. Or should i change fluid and filter? I had it rebilt in 2000 maybe have put about 40 miles on it so far i drive it only to work never out of town..thanks in advance for any info...

when i had that problem, there was an extra hole in the hoses by the throttle after the air intake, simple fix

It sounds like your engine is idling too high when you come to a stop.
As far as your shifting is concerned it sounds like a transmission problem. I would constantly check your fluids to make sure you don't have a leak somewhere. Check the ground under your car, too, to see if there is any major leakage.
Why not get a new car? There are some really nice used vehicles out there.

First change your transmission fluid to see if this cures the problem with shifting. Also on the side of the transmission there is a vacuum modulator, and if this goes bad may cause shifting problems. They are supposed to be changed once a year like spark plugs, but who does. Not me.

The revving problem, sounds like you need carburetor work. Go to an automotive store and buy a HAYNES AUTOMOTIVE BOOK for your year and model vehicle. It should handle any problems you have.

If that doesnt artwork it must be a gas transport subject, eg: gas filter out, clogged infector ect. bypass to an motor vehicle factors keep and have them verify why the easy is coming near... I had the same problem with my car so I took it in to the shop and it was the Vacuum Hoses.

Sounds like your idle control servo (or idle-up) is messed up.
