I've gotten pricing ranging from $500.00 to $1200.00

The cost of the parts, plus the labor rate multiplied by the number of hours the job is supposed to take.

Since parts will remain pretty constant, look on the wall of the shop for the labor rate per hour, which should be posted, and pick the mechanic with the lower rate, assuming you trust his work.

Also, as regards the water pump, prices will vary as to new, reconditioned or rebuilt. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Probably about right. Ask them if you would buy the parts if they would do it a bit cheaper. I had my timing belt changed and he charged $285 I bought the belt for $40 bucks and the water pump was like $118 and he charged $95 to install. But it depends on the car also, but doesn't sound ridiculous.

last time i hurd it was 800 to just fix the timeing belt
so i bet it's about 1500 in your case i just put a timeing belt on my car in June 2006 did it my self but if you don't no what your doing don't try

timing belt is $100-$150. i bet you have 135,000 miles on your car right?
