After I initially start up the car my oil light flickers on while I idle and sometimes when I let off the gas.

I just checked the oil and it is just above the fill line. I am most likely going to get an oil change soon, I think it is just about the time anyway.

It means that either your oil is low or your oil pressure is low. Either way you need to take it in and get it an oil change at least. Maybe a tune up or something

It probably is a warning that your oil level is getting low and needs to be checked by using the dip stick not when the engine is running..best done when its cold....if low add a quart at a time periodically checking the level on the stick...do not overfill as this may cause you to blow a seal....if the level is up there before or after you top it up ...the flickering of the oil light is probably due to a low idle rev...this can be corrected by adjusting the trottle cable to bring up your revs.......if all else fails it could possible be a faulty wire or sensor....and a diagnostics on the engine should be run.....hope this helps....have a great day!!!..good lucvk!

First change the oil, oil thinning or low can cause the oil light at idle or on deceleration. You oil pressure is low or the sending unit is failing. To check the cause you will need to installa mechanical gage and check the oil pressure, if the gage reads normal 50-80 PSI for most cars the sending unit is going if the gage reads low either the oil pump, oil pressure relief valve is failing or there is heavy bearing loss causing oil pressure to be lost.

it means you need oil NOW!! when the light flickers the oil is sloshing back and forth causing the light to go on and off. if the light is on at all ( even a little flicker ) it means you need oil. if the light comes on you should pull over, shut the car off and put at least 1 quart of oil in. it should never stay on constant and bright. when it stays on u r out of oil. if you HAVE to drive with the light on (no oil) watch the temp cuz it will be getting hot soon, if that happens you wont be driving much farther.

is your fast idle working when you first start the car?it may be idling too slow. When was the last time you changed the oil?In cold weather the oil gets containinated with gas and water espessially if you don't drive long enought to get everything up to temp. The last problem could be that the engine is getting worn enough that the oil clearances are too high and it can't hold enough pressure. If its the last one you can replace the engine or rebuild it.

Low oil pressure. Have the motor flushed and it might help. otherwise the motor is just worn. But run it, It can last a long time like that
