I am opening a repair shop and was looking for some suggestions on what to do my first day. I was thinking of doing a free winter check: Check battery and antifreeze with free donuts and coffee. But would appreciate some suggestions. Its very cold and lots of snow still on the ground in my area. I want something to get peoples attention. Would using a small strobe like be stupid? I am not the mechanic by the way.

That is a great idea, try expanding it to include the tires and wipers. Get a good stock of wiper blades, batteries and coolant and you will have a great opening day.

Congratulations on the new shop. Lots of luck. Can always use a reliable repair shop. You might want to check out local ordinances to see if the strobe is legal in your area. Simple flag banners and an ad in the local paper can do wonders. Put up a coming soon sign also. These things really helped me. Free coffee and doughnut sign brought many people in. Be careful about giving your services away. There are many people who will take advantage of that. Good luck!!!!

Performing alot of courtesy checks and deeds is a darn good way to get the people coming in. As you being a new shop it is important to give more extensive free service and peice of mind to your customers than it is just having to spend money doing things to get the job done. Service in our time and age is a very bleek and dwindling thing that the generation of today dosnt think works anymore. Let that be part of your motto and convay that to everyone you see and you cannot go wrong. Free coffee, donuts, and air preassure checks can only get you so far. Sincere service and quality work is somthing that will never be ignored. Good luck.

Well the best thing you can do is attract attention to your location. Do free oil changes, quick inspections, talk a lot, make people happy any way you can without going broke. Word of mouth is much better than blinking lights and a big gorilla on the roof.

free check sounds like a good idea, or try an inexpensive oil change.
