Yes it is a problem, a fairly inexpensive problem depending on what kind of car you have. I know someone that didn't replace it and their car died

It is a bypass valve that takes gas from the exhaust manifold and recycles it back into the intake manifold. Exhaust gas is inert in that it is mostly C02 and cannot be used for combusion again. It serves to improve fuel economy and lower the temperature of the cylinders and piston. If it bad, it will cause spark knocking which is premature detonation which could lead to engine failure.

yes it will save gas and it is pretty important. the egr valve moves exhaust gas from the exhaust pipe into the intake manifold. this causes the combustion chamber to cool down keeping engine temperature down. it also allows exhaust gas to be reburned instead of consuming more fuel.

It will absolutely save you gas.
The egr valve lets exhaust flow back into the engine, lowering combustion temps and reducing nitrous oxide buildups.
If you dont replace it, eventually your car will stall, hesitate on acceleration, and increase wear from heat.
Get it replaced

The EGR is your exaust gas recirculation system. It reroute's exhaust into your combustion chamber too cool it and atomize pollution. And while it's broken you will get lousy gas milage, remember: you get out of your car what you put into it.

Yes it is get it fixed soon....its a piece on the back of the engine that regulates the air gas mixture to burn less pollution....The piece is like 50 bucks...but if left untouched it will cause a lot more problems in other areas....and it will save on gas...99 windstar....ford sucks...
