Okay, so here is the situation with my car. I have a 1999 Ford Taurus. It's been a great car and very little maintenance has been required beyond the normal checkups. But, lately, and specifically as of the wintry weather has started up, my car makes a sound.... Well, let me try to explain this way. When I first start the car for the day, I turn on the ignition and the car idles during the start. While it idles, it makes a loud noise. Then, I shift it into R gear (it's an automatic) and it makes a noise during the idle part of the shift. So, anytime, at least this is when I notice it, it idles during a shift or accelerating the car, etc. it makes a noise while it tries to shift into gear. It's sort of like the noise your break pads make when they need to be changed. I have no idea what this is. Some have said my idle part may need to be replaced. But I have no idea and dread taking it to the dealer because they always find a dozen problems and jack the cost up.
