the helicoil repair for spark plugs works fine. Just know that it is a sleeve with threads on the inside and out, not just a spiral like with regular bolt repairs. As for the metal shavings, try to blow them out with a small tube attached to a blow gun(and air compresor) or just tap the hole and start the engine without that spark plug in it. The compression will blow all the chips out the hole. You only need to run it for a few seconds. If your head is aluminum you have no worries. the chips will never hurt anything. If the dealer does it right it will last forever.

There are a couple different ways to "heli-coil" it. One is cutting the new threads in then installing new heli-coil threads. This is a terrible way to do this. The better option is cutting in threads then installing an insert that has the spark plug seat in it. This is needed to seal the combustion completely. The first option will never seal perfectly and you will always have problems with the spark plug boot. Ask how they plan to remove the metal shavings from the cylinder. Replacing the head is the best repair but if they can put in insert and get out shavings may last for a very long time. Roll the dice-feel lucky?

There are a pair distinctive undemanding approaches to "heli-coil" it. One is reducing the hot threads in then installation new heli-coil threads. this might properly be a unfavourable thank you to try this. the greater powerful determination is reducing in threads then installation an insert that has the spark plug seat in it. it is mandatory to seal the combustion thoroughly. the 1st determination won't in any respect seal completely and you will constantly have problems with the spark plug boot. Ask how they plan to get rid of the metallic shavings from the cylinder. changing the top is the terrific restoration yet whilst they are in a position to put in insert and get out shavings might final for an extremely long term. Roll the cube-experience fortunate?

you can use the H-coil like the dealership recommends or you can change engine blocks ------ since the car is already 5/6 years old put the heli-coil in the block and drive the car and hope that it lasts for a few more years ____ the H-coil was invented to save the expensive engine block swap-out.... it works just fine...

This can be done but usually doesn't last very long in my experience. Even if it goes wrong when being done, it's about the only thing you can do without tearing the head off.

It's relatively cheap, unless the head has to be pulled, so it's like 500 dollars if the head is pulled if not it's like 50 bucks!

it is better than original when done properly, but the head should be removed to keep the metal chips out of the engine!

I don't trust them. I would rather pull the head and repair it right.
