Maintenance & Repairs - January 2007

We brought our vehicle in to have the fuel pump replaced; the vehicle had to be towed into the shop. After recieving the vehicle we discovered the gas gage was not operating properly, which it had been before the repairs. We have repeatedly brought the vehicle back to the shop to have it fixed and they're "solution" was to add 8 bottles of cleaner to try and get the gage to read the gas level properly. Now any mechanic with half a brain cell knows the floater is what reads the gas level and that when you replace the fuel pump on a 2003 Chev Cavalier that the floater comes as part of the new part when replacing the pump! The shop is telling us to pretty much shove it now though and refuses to repair their mistake saying that the gage never worked in the first place before the repairs and said that if I can prove it did work before they'll fix it!

Anyone know how we can force them to fix their screw up, being nice and trying to use logic and vehicle knowledge is obviously not working.

I have a small block chevy that I am looking to rebuild. I was thinking about vortec heads but they only have up to 180 cc intake runners. What would flow better, vortec heads or a 200 cc intake head with 2.02 valves? I've heard that vortecs make more power even though they have smaller intake ports. Is this true?

I know that it naturally takes a few minutes for a car's heater to start blowing hot hair (especially on brutally cold mornings)- but mine seems to take longer than "normal", and the air is lukewarm, and not hot. Could this be the heater core?

Had the plugs, wires, and canister purge kit put on.
Check engine light is on again, now I am told that the power control module is having an electrical surge and causing other parts to burn up. I am now told that this part is 950.00 and I have already spent 820.00 to replace the canister purge kit, plugs and wires. How do I know if this will solve all our problems.

We broke down today, pulling off at a junction, it sounded like a snap and the car wouldn't drive. It went into gear but the clutch was not engaged. Any ideas on what went wrong, how to fix and what cost?
Thanks.

Okaaaaay, here's the deal.
Last night, after work, I go out to the garage and get in my car, like always. I put the key in the ignition, it cranked... but nothing happened. I called my uncle, because he gave me the car, and he's a master mechanic, so he should know what's going on, right? Wellllll.. being three states away doesn't help with diagnosising things.
He says it's possible I flooded the engine, so to hold down the gas pedal while turning the key for 10-15 seconds. I did this, and everything died. Prior to that, the lights and radio were fine.
Now, when I turn the key, all I hear is a rapid series of clicks. The lights won't go on, the wipers don't work, and the windows don't move. Heck, the locks don't even work.
I know that's indicitive of the battery, but was that the main problem to begin with, or did my over-zealous cranking just kill it? Pretty please help? :)

Within the past two weeks when the temp is below 32 degrees in the am, the car refuses to start. Ive had the battery checked twice and was told it was full power. The car starts fine when it has sat in the sun for an hour or so. Ive tried putting a blanket over the engine block overnight and was successful starting it at 15 deg outside, but the next day that didnt work. Im at a loss.

Please don't flame this questions, because I know if i dont know the answer " I shouldn't even bother doing it myself " but I have alot of time & an extra car I just picked up & I would like to learn. I am young, so I have time during the summer. I bought a 1985 Honda Prelude with a dual carberated 1.8L I think it's an ET Engine. My other car ( daily driver ) is a 89 Civic with a rebuilt ZC engine w/ a Si/Zc transmission & I love it so much It made me buy another Honda just to "play" with because I dont want to mess up my daily driver!!

I bought the 1985 Prelude from a junk lot (they get alot of DUI vehicles) The engine is seems very strong, doesnt make any wierd sounds & it runs great. The body is in shape besides usual fender rust on front & back fenders and the rear quarter pannels are eaten pretty bad with rust. It was about to be smashed, so in all i saved this cars life & I am wanting to bring some life back into the car.
