My car runs just fine around town, but when I try to go on the freeway the battery light starts flickering. Does any one know what may be causing this? thank you

the alternator could be weak so when you need the extra power it makes the light come on due to lack of power.also check to make sure the alternator belt isn't worn or slipping. an old redneck trick to check the alternator is to start the car and then unhook the battery terminals (be sure they dont touch each other or any metal) and if the car stalls your alternator is shot and should be replaced. if it keeps running turn on all your assessories(power stuff like lights radio etc.) if it then stalls it is weak and should still be replaced. also check to be sure your battery terminals arent loose or corroded or broken this causes lack of power too. make sure you check to see if the belt is tight.sometimes when the belt wears out they will twist or flip upside down then you will lose power this happened to me before.if your alternator is worn out sometimes it will drain your battery when the car is off; to check this unhook your battery when you turn the car off and if it doesnt drain power(the light doesnt come on for the battery) then it was the alternator.fully charge your battery too this could be a problem. old batteries lose power and may need replacing. if the alternator and battery check out then try a full charged battery. hope this helpsyou.

If it is a General Motors car, it is a bad diode in the rectifier bridge.
You need to buy a new HIGH DOLLAR alternator.
Please have the belt inspected before you spend any money. A "V-belt" can slip when warm and at higher RPM. The same is true with a Serpentine belt.
If you drive to a local part store like Auto Zone, they can check it FREE. Or simply go to good- reputable repair shop. Most charging system tests are free.

Your alternator or battery going out. Take it to an automotive parts shop, like Auto Zone, or somewhere where they can check your car for free. You have enough juice for slow driving, but high speeds using more juice and alternator is not charging your battery fast enough or battery can not hold a charge.
Also clean your battery posts and make sure they are tight,

I think I would check to make sure my fan belt was tight first, then I would have my alternator checked by a mechanic. Sounds like something isn't charging right, could even be a loose wire,.

It sounds like you may have a faulty alternator....I'd suggest going to an autoelectrician to have it checked.

Could be lose belt and/or alternator starting to go bad.
