You need to take it to a good mechanic (that you trust) or to an automotive electrical place and have it tested. It could be just about anything from a bad connection to the battery, a short, voltage regulator, to something in the electronic controls.

When it comes to automotive electrics, let the more knowledgeable handle it.

Did you know that the wire between the altenator and the starter which goes to the battery has a fuse in the line. If that is blown, you may not charge or start the car.

If the battery posts are dirty this may do it.

Take it to an auto parts place where they can check the alternator and battery. I had a supposedly "new" battery that lasted only one month, from Auto Zone. Also, the alternator may have been defective too.

Did you do the work or did someone else do it? If someone else, make sure that at least the altenator looks new and not washed clean.

Also, if your battery is not fully charged when you put a new alternator in you will get alternator problems. Recheck your belt to make sure there is enough tension. Maybe you forgot to tighten it back up.

Alternators are not designed to charge dead batteries, so make sure the battery reads at least 12.5 Volts DC across it's terminals before installing it in the car. Otherwise, you need to have the battery load tested to make sure it's positively good, and then have it fully charged. Once you have a good fully charged battery in the car with clean, tight battery cable connections, then read the voltage across the battery at high idle. It should read about 14 Volts. Anything below 13.5 Volts means you have a charging problem.

If it's a newer car the voltage regulators are right in the computer or right in the alternator. So if your computer is acting up it may not charge your battery. I had a similar problem with a dodge intrepid, the computer was the culprit. Have there been any other problems?

Is/was the car starting at all after you hooked the new alt and bat?

The battery may have died from working with the bad alternator. I'm not a mechanic but it's happened to me in the past and that is what the result of the same symptoms were.

verify the battery terminals are sparkling and tight.Recharge the battery (verify water degrees first),then restart the motorcar and take it for a 20 minute force (no light fixtures, day time in hardship-free words). it is going to recharge if revs are over1000. verify the alternator sprint mild isn't drawing close(if so your alternator is unsuitable or stressed out incorrectly). If it would not recharge, you opt on a clean battery.

Is the alternator grounded well? I had this problem with an older ford and had to ground my alternator, voltage regulator, and battery

Check your fuses and fusible links the alternator needs to have ignition hot voltage in order for the regualtor to work. If all else remove the alternator and have it chcked at parts store you may have gotten a bad one trust me it does happen.

If the alternator has an external regulator it might be bad, possibly a bad fuse, relay, or fusible link.
