cut a popcan in half or a tin can then clamp it into place over the break duct tape will burn up and aluminum duct tape will fall off because the glue melts .. theres a new product out at autozone thats like the old asbestos tape for muffler repair without any harmful ingrediants or just wire the peices togeather with rebar or coathanger wire twisted to hold and under the wire cut a can and wrap it around now you can make it til you buy clamps and heres a cheap way to go get in the dumpster at a muffler shop after closeing and get the pipes and or the muffler i found a new muffler that way and buy clamps and a hacksaw and cut slots into the ends of the pipes and add new pieces and then clamp the whole thing unbolts from the heat riser or the donut or the manifold then cut out the bad stuff retain the catalytic converter and any good stuff and piece it back add the hangers and voila free system

I do not recommend this, but it does work for a day or two.

Eat Your Heart Out Midas!
Recently while driving my 90 VW fox to an important meeting, I was horrified when I heard this awlful sudden rumbleing and clanking I pulled over only to discover my muffler and tailpipe had come apart. With no time or money to call a repairman I remembered the duck tape my fiancé always kept in the trunk. I thought the tape might burn on the hot exhaust so I looked around and found a tin can and slipped one end over the tailpipe and the other end over the neck of muffler ducktaped the entire thing together. Needless to say I made my meeting and the tape held till payday, a few days later. Ducktape really saved the day.

No, the tape will melt away. You CAN use exhaust repair tape, but i believe that is for patching holes in the pipe itself. I dont see why is wouldn't work on the muffler itself as a TEMP fix, however.

It's worth a shot if it buys you some time.

Good Luck!

No, the heat will melt the tape. They sell a muffler repair tape that will resist the pressure and heat.

No. They have some crap at a auto parts store that you can wrap around it for a temporary fix. The muffler is toast.

That's a big no..... it will melt and burn and smell bad...LOL.... there is a metal tape you can get at your local auto store. That will work until you can get some permanent repair work done.

Yes you can. Be sure to use a high quality grade duct tape.
If you choose a low grade duct tape, it wont hold a well!!
