I know i got this one beat hands down.

Go to an Automotive Parts shop, like Auto Zone, and get the Hanes auto book on your truck. There is a section on maintenance for your vehicle. Plus if you have a problem, you don't have to ask a question to all the wannabe mechanics on line. hahaha

But one thing though. When you do your next oil change on transmission and engine, use synthetic oil.

Fill your truck up and run two full tanks of gas to get a good MPG. Do this before your next oil change. Then change oil using synthetic oil. Takes about a 1000 miles to wear in. But if you do it right, you can figure the money you save on the extra gas mileage you get. Then like me you will never go back to the dark side. lol I change the oil once a year on my 92 explorer with synthetic oil. Or you can do the every 6 months change like it is recommended with synthetic oil. Trick is to change OIL FILTER every two or 3 months as this is what catches microscopic metal particles. I also put in a heavy duty magnet on bottom of oil pan as this will catch stuff too. I have 220,000 on same engine and still running primo. Use a magnet on transmission too. Newer cars have this now.

If you read your manual it will tell you what to do. But mainly if you have never had anything done to it mechanically like changing the plugs or wires then you might want to. Check the plugs for wear, if they are worn down then replace them. The plug wires will deteriorate also so it is helpful to get new ones but not always needed. The oil needs to be changed depending on when you last changed it. The transmission, transfer case(if you have a 4x4), and axle(s) need to have their fluid changed and a new filter in the transmission. Make sure to put all new seals on the transmission and axle covers to prevent leaking. Check the brake rotors and pads are fine. Check for heat cracks on the rotors. Change the air filter and fuel filter depending on when you last changed them or how dirty or clogged they are. And put a little bit of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank to clean up the injectors.

You first need to know if any of the preventative maintenance has been done. If you know of a reputable repair shop or if you personally know a certified mechanic, ask them to give it a "once over". There are literally hundreds of things that can go wrong.
You can smell th fluids. Are they dark or smell burnt? If so, you need to change them. If the coolant smell fishy, you need to change that also. The brakes - steering and suspension need to be looked at by certified mechanics. It may LOOK alright but you may have hidden problems.
Read the OWNER'S MANUAL. You will find a schedules for all maintenance items.

Take it for regular oil changes at your dealership. Then there are the maintenace schedules that occur at 15K, 30K....... Just follow the reccomended maintenace. If you take care of most vechicles you can get minimum 200K miles.

P.S. Do not have the timing chain replaced. In my opinion it is not worth the expense. I am pretty sure your car is chain driven. But if it is belt driven then it must be replaced. Ask your dealership.

Man that's a can-o-worms.
