I currently have a 1994 Mercury Tracer and want a newer car. I found a 1998 Oldmobile Aurora that I'm in love with. Problem is that my mechanic father said it's a bad idea since they only made them for a few years to begin with so why did they stop making them if they're a good reliable car...I need a quick answer to this before someone else jumps on it. Please help me...

I have replaced the pilot bearing, clutch plate, pressure plate, throwout bearing, slave cylinder, master cylinder, and clutch petal bushings. The clutch petal free play is within normal ranges and the slave cylinder push rod is also within the normal ranges. I have bled the new master and slave cylinder and no air is left in the system. I also have re-inforced the firewall behind the master and have no more than 1/8' of play.

one of my front and one of my back brakes are locked on opposite sides. car-x is talking about flushing my brake system out and maybe replacing master cylinders- well a friend's mechanic husband is telling me they are wrong, calipers will be what locks the brakes up. i need to know what to do fast because i only have 40% brakes left on both of the ones locked up. i can't afford to waste money. can the master cylinder be the problem or would it be the calipers? i already know i need new brakes because of this. also, if the gas guage doesn't work right will the gas light still come on when it's low enough to? sometimes it says i am full then it will fall to empty in minutes...

Two parts --

My '85 Ford Bronco II (2.8L V6, 4WD, carb, manual) starts, idles, and runs fine when the engine is dead cold, or when the engine is fully warm (temp above the 1/3 mark). But when the engine has warmed enough for the needle to come off the bottom but hasn't yet crossed into the normal range, it won't idle or run worth a darn -- it acts like it is only firing on one cylinder and smells like the mixture is extremely rich.

This is a minor problem normally, but in really cold weather it just becomes a complete dog. I can rig it by slapping a cardboard panel across the radiator -- the engine heats all the way up and it works fine.

But I'd really like to know what is HAPPENING to it? This is the 2nd carb that has done this, so I think it must be from the EEC-IV somewhere, maybe a bad sensor?

2nd question: Anyone ever put a 1990's Mazda MPV 2.8L V6 and tranny into a mid-80's Bronco II (my '95 MPV with 165K always runs sweet)? Any advice if so?

I took my car to my mechanic, and he changed the gas cap. Light came on 2 additional times and he attempted to reset it, but it was still on. Finally broken down and took it to the Nissan Dealer. They informed me that it was the emissions canister and that carbon was seeping in. They replaced the canister, caps, and valves for the canaister. The next day, the light came back on, went through this process 3 times now with the Nissan Dealer, and two times with my personal mechanic, (total 5 x's). I am feeling pretty pissed off now, picked up the car this morning from the Nissan Dealer, and guess what.....the light came on again before, I got home. The problem is, I need to get a smog check on my car, to complete the current registration, and I have paid the Nissan Dealer $500.00, any suggestions on what to do?

Ok someone correct me if I am wrong. I assume that this is the way brakes are made up....you have the pads, which are cheap....and 'underneath" them you have the rotors, calipers, etc. Why not just frequently replace your brake PADS, that way they would never grind down far enough to where you would have to replace the more expensive componants of your brakes. As in, replace your pads every 6 months.......before they grind away and into the major components of your brakes. This would save everyone a lot of money correct?
