A friend of mine had a 98 Oldsmobile Aurora and not only did it go fast and was very peppy, it also had 220 thousand miles on it last time I saw that friend and the car to my knowledge is still running strong. She never had any problems with it and had bought the car new.

The Aurora was Olds attempt at staying alive. Oldsmobile no longer exists under the GMC corporate structure. It shares a generic GMC platform ( the same as the Chevy Lumina) with a few mechanical tweaks to the engine and power train. It was produced in limited numbers for a few years. Without parts and technical support any new owners will be left in need and few resourses to deal with. Take the advise of your father. He knows more than you give him credit I am guessing.Good Luck in your search.

This is not a good car, Auroras are luxury car wannabes to begin with. Lots of technical wizardry and no rhyme or reason as how to get stuff fixed. I've known several people with these cars and the reliability is horrible. Keep the Tracer and buy your dad dinner. This is saving money in my book.

They completely stopped making all Oldsmobiles, because it was always considered an old person's car make. I think they stopped making the Aurora because it was too sporty for the typical Oldsmobile buyer, older crows, and maybe a little too pricey. I heard it was a good car though, good looking too.

remember it is a GM car. A lot of partds interchange with the Aurora. I cross reference them all the time. Find a GM dealer or an ASE certified garage that has mechanics that know Olds. They are easy to find. Ask AAA,
They are reliable and a GM..
Go for it, you aren't going to keep it for 50 years are you..

I agree with you it's a great looking car(!), but if it breaks down, getting parts for a discontinued car is very hard! As for the reason they stopped making it, it's not becuase it was junk. Middle America didnt care for the sleek, sporty, futuristic looks. They like something less attractive. Go figure! Become rich and collect all the cars you like someday. For now, buy something that is cheap and easy to fix and insure. ;-)

Find a Toyota, Nissan or Honda for around the same price.
More reliable and gas will be cheaper, so will replacement parts like tires, brake pads, rotors, etc.
