one of my front and one of my back brakes are locked on opposite sides. car-x is talking about flushing my brake system out and maybe replacing master cylinders- well a friend's mechanic husband is telling me they are wrong, calipers will be what locks the brakes up. i need to know what to do fast because i only have 40% brakes left on both of the ones locked up. i can't afford to waste money. can the master cylinder be the problem or would it be the calipers? i already know i need new brakes because of this. also, if the gas guage doesn't work right will the gas light still come on when it's low enough to? sometimes it says i am full then it will fall to empty in minutes...

This one may have a split master cylinder where one compartment sends fluid to one front brake and the back brake on the opposite side, so the master cylinder is a real possibility. To check for it, open the bleeder screw at one of the wheels where the brakes are locked, using an crescent wrench instead of a socket wrench. If the master cylinder is bad, you'll get a short spurt of pressurized fluid coming out. This could possibly be crud in the lines that keeps fluid from coming back.

The calipers are a possibility too, but with two of them locking on their own at once, I would suspect a different cause.

on the brake issue,, dirt in the line will cause the calipers to lock up,,the master cylinder will cause it if the dirt started from there, and id say it did,,on the gas gage issue the sending unit in the tank is loosing ground,,i think that is what causing it to act up,,your going to need to new rotors because of this because id say they got really hot,,i own a repair shop in Tennessee,,and we do this kind of work all the time,,your going to need a new master cylinder on this also,,and a complete flush,,because if you don't it may do it again on you,,it can be dangerous to drive with them like that,,so have it repaired right so it don't cause you to have an accident,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

doubt its the calipers...Being that one back and one front is locked only means one of your circuts its bad or clogged, in a brake system there are circuts (lines) and most cars one line feeds one front and one rear tire on oppossing sides. so you would deff want to check you master cylinder ports to make sure no leaks or cloggs and then i would check to see if you have a restricted brake line or smashed line that feeds the two wheels in ?. aslo the easy way to check caliper and to see if its a restriction is to jack up car, remove wheel in ? then open the bleeder on caliper if wheel spins freely then you have a restriction if stays same then the calipers are locked and mostl likley because of the master cylinder. hope this helps

Your fuel sender is starting to go bad.

Replace the caliper and the rotor as well.

The calipers are corroded and won't retract. They have to be disassembled, cleaned out and reassembled.

I'd put my money on the calipers.
