I need to take my car in tomorrow and my husband's in Afghanistan. My family doesn't live here and all my friends work. I think the brakes need to be redone. That will take awhile right? Should I plan on walking home or do they give you a ride?

First off.. the intention of this question is to get some ideas BEFORE I go into a repair faciliy ... I *know* I should take the car to a mechanic.

The car is a 99 Cavalier .. 76k miles... one owner car (me), and I'm the only one that drives it.
The tires are 2-3 years old BFGoodrich (15k-20k miles on each), but good quality with 80k mile warranty on them. Low miles.
I had the tires checked out on Friday and they told me: no bubbles, no separation and they were balanced. No bent rims.

I notice this bumping at slow speeds (slowing down, speeding up from a stoplight), and a vibration at higher speeds (45-50). It feels like when you have flat spot on the tire or bubble in the tire.
But again, I took this into the Tire store (Discount Tire) and they ruled this out.

No other mechanical problems that I can detect.. car runs great.

Ideas? Should I try taking the car to another Discount Tire to have them checked out again.. they won't charge me.
I'm out of space.

How do you know when a car overheats? My temp gauge on my 63 newport goes all the way into the danger zone. Is something supposed to blow? I have never had a car overheat. The hoses have good pressure, new w.p. therm., and another new sender. Help

Im driving across the US (Va to Utah) and im going to get new tires, tune up... before I go. How do I KNOW for sure that I'm getting the tires I need & that they REALLY are good tires (without spending a fortune). I also would like info on the best roads to travel? (the less mountains the better!) and I'd really like to know the safest and shortest routes. Any other info you think might be helpful? Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help! The air coming out of it is cool air but its not very strong like you barley get any air at all coming out. Anything I can do to make it "blast" out of the vents lol.

I own a 2002 Olds alero. When I push on my hazard lights, they flash a few times then quit working. Then if I try to use my turn signals, they may also stop working for awhile. The guy at the garage changed all the bulbs and looked at the fuses. Does anyone know what else the problem may be?

The motor died at the beginning of the year, and it's been in the garage for months, and I keep getting told a replacement motor for this car is really hard to find.
The car is in excellent nick otherwise, so it's a shame to just get rid of it. I really would like to get a replacement motor but being the type of person who has to depend on the kindness of mechanics and strangers, I have decided to ask here as my mechanic just can't seem to manage finding a motor! I'm afraid the longer my car just sits there, the worse off it will be!! : (

My daughter just called me and told me that she lost the gas cap off of their truck on their way to Va, from Pa. I didn't know what to tell her to do. Can you buy them in an auto parts store or maybe go to a junk yard and find one? Do most of them fit different cars/trucks? Thanks.

it's $2.29 a gal and i use prem gas what is about 2.42a gal
