The motor died at the beginning of the year, and it's been in the garage for months, and I keep getting told a replacement motor for this car is really hard to find.
The car is in excellent nick otherwise, so it's a shame to just get rid of it. I really would like to get a replacement motor but being the type of person who has to depend on the kindness of mechanics and strangers, I have decided to ask here as my mechanic just can't seem to manage finding a motor! I'm afraid the longer my car just sits there, the worse off it will be!! : (

Sounds like you need to shop around for a better mechanic/ garage. There are engine re-builders out there, but some are better than others. Ask the various garages what source they use for engines. Very few shops are equip ed to rebuild engines, so they just swap them out for a rebuilt one. Maybe your shop is trying to locate one from a wrecked vehicle? So let your fingers do the walking and try the yellow pages or ask around to try to find out what other shops, people have used that they trust to do good work.

I am not much of a mechanic, but in cases like that...Have you tried getting a quote on how much it would take to REBUILD the engine? It may actually be much much cheaper
