use a heavier weight oil, like a 20-50 racing oil. Your engine is nearing the end of its life.

High volume oil pump.
Its a well known fact that the 318 & 360 for 96-99 use oil and have low oil pressure due to the intake manifold gasket leaking internal causing the plenum to suck up oil in from the valley.
a simple vacuum test can be done to determine if this is the case

My '96 Dakota with 318 had a bad oil pressure sensor. Gauges showed little oil pressure. I replaced the sensor, and gauges showed normal. I was told that the '96 trucks had a problem with the sensor. Check it out.

try using a K&N oil filter but over all you really cant. Is the pressure down? you may have a cracked head leaking pressure out or maybe alot of gunk built up in the engine. Use some BG oil treatment that usually cleans up gunk

if you have low oil pressure the cause could be from an oil pump failure or low oil level. the only way to get more pressure is to install a high flow/high pressure pump. if you have atleast 50psi i wouldn't change a thing. i am a technician and own a dodge ram myself. good luck!
