I need to take my car in tomorrow and my husband's in Afghanistan. My family doesn't live here and all my friends work. I think the brakes need to be redone. That will take awhile right? Should I plan on walking home or do they give you a ride?

Not on my planet. Some dealerships may have shuttles that run you to the mall or othe popular places (the car rental place). I usually bring my iPod, something to read and drink and figure my morning is shot.

If you take it to a brake/muffler shop they can have you in and out in a hour. no need for a ride.
If you take it to a car dealership, they can give you a ride if you let them know you need one. Just ask how long it is going to be before the car is repaired and then ask for a ride if it is going to be a long time.

I believe only major dealerships give rides home that are 10 miles in distance.

Distance is the factor most repair shops use to decide if they will give you a ride home.

Also, dont tell them to drop you off at your house. Ask them to drop you off at a mall or somewhere close so you can walk home.

I would call the shop first and tell them your situation.

If you are within walking distance, they should be willing to give you a ride - but that may mean that they have to pick you up.

In general, they are not big fans of giving people rides.

To increase your chances, don't take it in first thing in the morning (or at lunch). They will be a lot busier and less likely to take time out to give you a ride.

Call first - and make sure that you get the person's name.

No, sorry that is something they don't usually do. A break job only takes about 2 hours, so you might just want to take a magazine or good book along, or you could walk home, turn around and walk back...up to you...sorry : (

Most do not. I would call and check about a cab if you can't wait while they are done.
