When I try to start my 97 Jeep Cherokee, it will turn over and try to start for a few seconds and won't actually start unless I cut the engine off and try to start it again right away. So I turn the key and the engine cranks, turn off the car and turn the key to start it again and it starts right up. Any ideas?

It was fine last night when I drove it. I didn't leave the lights on or anything. I went to start it this morning, turned the key, and all it did was click several times. The lights and radio still work. What is wrong with it?

If an engine is blown, does this mean it is necessarilly cracked and cannot be rebuilt??
What makes an engine rebuildable??
Is that cheaper than buying and having a used engine put??

My 1995 Ford Contour is missing its brake fluid cap. It's still driveable (i.e. the brakes work), but what kind of problem can this cause? I'm guessing that the main concern would be foreign objects entering the braking system and either decreasing the braking efficiency or even perhaps rupturing the brake line. I should be getting a new cap today and won't be driving again until I do, but should I get my brake fluid flushed and the system checked before I do any real driving again?

Hey guys thanks for your help on my other question

Will exterior house paint work on my 1990 volvo wagon? I am concerned it will not be able to handle the heat (I live in a sunny area) Additionally it will get pretty hot under the hood.

I was thinking of going with an exterior satin, or exterior semigloss finish on my car after applying a coat of tinted primer and after sanding it off lightly with 100 grade. (I was going to do 2 coats of paint with no primer, but the 2nd layer of glossy paint won't adhere too well to the first coat.) I plan on using a roller(for 90% of the car) and a brush (for fine areas)

My car is burgundy, and I plan on painting it yellow.

Can you advise me on how to better approach this plan?

Thanks guys (and girls too)

Anyone got a good suggestion for removing a nut that is stripped? I'm trying to remove my battery from my '96 Nissan Centra and the nut on the possitive terminal is stripped and too hard to get to with pliers or a conventional nut splitter. I think I had a bad angle on the nut and it started to strip. I tried some vise grips, cleaning the terminal, wd40, different socket wrench heads, everything, but no luck. Please help!

I'm in california so smog checks are a little harder here. I had my 84 jimmy tested and although i passed emissions, i failed visual inspections because of an exposed wire, unplugged minor vaccuum tube, and my idle speed rpm was too high. i have all this fixed, but because of the vaccuum hose im afraid my emissions might go higher now that it's plugged in. I don't think it'd be TOO much, but i was nearing the limit for carbon monoxide. the guy doing the check said he didnt think the hose would make it go over when plugged back in, but there is that chance because it most likely will go up. I've tuned up recently, and I'm wondering about fuel additives as a just in case. I've heard conflicting opinions, some people swear by them, some people say they're complete BS. The only time I really noticed a difference was in my old car i used one especially for cleaning out dirty carburetors, which mine was, and there was a minor performance increase. Anyone have any actual good things to say?
