Have to go with shocks or struts. Probably 4 wheel struts on a KIA. Ck engine light should be able to be diagnosed, cuz KIA hasn't been around since before '96 and everything after '96 runs OBDII (on board diagnostics). The only time the light comes on is if there is a code in the computer. If you're in Everett, WA area, I'm a mechanic looking for side work.

Take your car to another dealer. The engine check lamp means that there is a fault somewhere, probably with the car's computer so you need do diagnose it. Don't drive like that because when the light is on the computer runs a special program which controls the injection and compression ratios according to the fault detected. You need to change your shocks because they are worn out and your car is unstable when driving over bumps. Also a faulty shock absorber will mean greater stopping distances.

It does sound like the shocks are worn out. They might be called struts on your model but they do the same job.

Best get it done because if the tires are bouncing off the ground you could lose control in a curve and really smash it up.

That foreign built Jeep pretender is not as safe in a wreck as you would like it to be.

if your taking the car to the dealer and they can't tell you what the light is for then you need to go to another dealer it sounds like that dealer doesn't know what to do. As for your car bouncing that is diffidently your struts, they don't ever put good ones on from the dealer so the originals wear out fast , you want to get them replaced because they can cause wear in other places, good luck

The dealership ought to be able to tell you why that light is on. If they cant, the LEAST they can do is clear it so it doesnt stay on. Is this car under warranty? If so, you must demand that they fix the issue. Sounds like your shocks are bad on the handling issue. Doesnt sound like a disc or drum issue. Have no idea whatsoever on why someone thinks your catalytic converter is bad??

I would think its the shocks that need to be replaced. As for the check engine light its very wierd they cant tell you what it is, they just have to plug a device into the computer and then it gives a code they use to figure out what it is.
