My astra had a very bad idle and was giving misfire indications on cylinder 3. Vauxhall garage reckoned it was the cylinder head needed decoked. After numerous applications of redex, STP and similar products along with injector cleaner through the air intake and the stuff you put into oil. New plugs, leads and fuel filter it is running a lot better but still not perfect. Can anyone explain what is likely to be the problem and how to resolve it, preferably advise where to get any products required as well.

Murphy's law says that just two months after I paid off my car that I would end up with oil leaks that my mechanic says will cost around $900 to completely fix. How bad is it to just keep driving it (and checking the oil)? And how long do you think I can keep driving it? My husband thinks I should just sell it and get a new one, but I so don't want another car payment right now.

(2.0L engine-5 spd manual) Last few months, started getting smell of burnt antifreeze from defroster vents after car was running 15-20 min. Nothing overheating, or apparent leaks from top side that I can see; thermostat & fan runs fine; new timing belt kit & water pump recently; & have had probs 2X now with little rubber elbow -PCV intake?- melting & having to be replaced). Several told me the smell was from the A/C running too hard; but, even after 2 months w/o using A/C...still get that smell. This morning, it started fogging the inside of the windshield, & when I turned on the defroster to clear it...it seemed to make it worse, & an oil-like film coated the glass lightly...then it started smoking out the defroster vents. Turned it off, & no further probs, other than the constant smell. Any ideas as to what this prob could be??

i got a check engine light, and here is what i got:

P0708 Trans Range Sensor Circuit High Input

P1744 TCC System Performance

P0420 CAT Effic Below Threshold (Bank 1)

P1519 IMRC Malfunction (Intake Manifold Runner Control)

When i start driving, there's no problem, works just fine when cold, but when the temperature raises to normal, it will start to shake, pull and its kinda jumpy around, specially on the highway anywhere from30-50 mph

The mechanic that I usually go to is being a sexist because he thought that he could add water in place of antifreeze, I wouldn't know any better. That pissed me off so I stopped by Pepboys to buy the liquid and do it myself. So, I'm wonder, where do I dunk the anitfreeze once i've drained it out of my car?

Took my Chevy Astro in because battery light was coming on. Paid $300.00 for new alternator. Drove van home, battery light still on, gauges went to zero, van died in the driveway. Mechanic had it towed back to the shop. Says alternator shorted out and fried my computer. Wants me to pay $500.00 for new computer. If old alernator fried computer, how did we drive it to the shop and back. If new alternator fried computer, should I have to pay for the defective part or installation. Please advise!

I've had a couple of flat tires and both times, Discount Tires suggested to replace the tire because they cannot repair it. They said that the puncture was near the sidewall. It seems to me that they never repair a tire (although they offer the service for free), in addition, they pull a scare tactic such as "The tire will bubble and explode..." It looks to me that if you have a flat tire, you need to replace it not repair it.

I was driving home from work in my 1988 toyota tercelan it just cut off. I went to the side of the road to try to start it. I step on the gas pedal several times. It would run for a few seconds then cut off. It is acting like it is not getting gas. I had it tow to my local mechanic. he has done eveything he knows to do and it is doing the same thing. He put a new fuel filter and fuel pump on it and it is still doing the same thing. do you have any ideals what it could be. It is also fuel injected. ** thanks**

I have 90k miles on a 2001 Integra and it's never been in for a regular servicing, I've just done brakes, tires, etc. as it's needed them. What types of things would you expect it to need when I bring it in? Also, there is no Acura dealer nearby, so my choices are a Honda dealer, a Sears type garage or a local spot. What's the best choice?

I bought a 94' cavalier for $200 and I knew it needed work. But When I drive It the coolant ends up boiling and smoke pours out from under my hood. lol
While coolant is boiling oil starting pouring out of somewhere. I was thinking it might just need a new thermostat and a few gaskets...

I'd like to get some feed back and ideas.

Hi,
First of all, I'm not very knowledgable about cars.

I'm bought a 1996 Ford Taurus (125K miles) in June, and made about 4000 miles since then. I took it to Ford Service and have it inspected, everything was fine except a ball joint which I had it replaced. Never had any problems until today.

This morning, it took a few seconds to start the car. Normally it starts instantly. I drove for 5 miles to the bookstore, stopped half an hour there and returned home. After 20 minutes, I had to drive again, but this time the car did not start at all. Tried a few times with waiting 10-15 seconds in between, but did not work.

2 hours later, I tried to start again but still did not work. I don't know if it's the battery but the headlights, radio and inner lights were working fine. So, I was about to call to have it towed but in the next try it started instantly. Drove 3-4 minutes, stopped again, tried a few more times and again it started without a problem.

Any idea on this issue?

Is there anything I can buy to make it look normal again? Like a replacement bottle of clear coat? Do I have to sand off the pieces that are visible?
