Had the left rear shock replaced 4 months ago as part of NCT test. After 3 months knocking noise came back. Had the shock replaced free under gaurantee. A few weeks later the knocking noise is back.

Tried to google, and got some info re shock mounts?

Might this be the problem ? anyone any ideas, is it likely to be something costly?

I am not sure what motor oil to use for my car. I have a '96 BMW 318ti with about 115k miles on it. I really dont know the difference between 5W/30 or 10W/40 or however else it comes. Fill me in.

Thinking about buying a 2000 Malibu w/ 3100 engine. Car looked great except there was a slight soft sludge substance when I wiped my finger on the inside of the dex-cool coolant caniseter. What is this substance? Should I be worried? Car seems to look and run great.

I have checked all the fuses and they appear to be fine. I have changed the brake light switch (on top of the brake pedal) and the brake lights still do not work. The bulbs work when swapped around in the other sockets so I know they aren't burnt. Any suggestions as to what else may be wrong?

Well not very long ago it started.. i have no clue what it is it's just loud and you can hear a little bit of clicking now at first i didn't really hear it but now you can.. it's hard to explain but i think it's coming from the block but im not sure.. but i believe it's getting louder.. The oil is fine so im really not sure.. The "Noise" is alot louder then the clicking.. i wish i could explain.. It's not a whining sounds but it's not a grinding sound it's right in between.. Any help would be appreciated. Thank's

My transmission guy did some kind of test today that said that the engine and transmission are fine, and that it drives like a Saturn with 100K miles on it. (We don't know the exact amount, but I think it's well over that, maybe 125K.) However, he noticed that it was driving very warm, and that something else may be going on with it, and to therefore have the cooling system checked out by my regular mechanic. The tranny guy said that it may be some kind of borderline condition, and that's why his test may not have picked it up. However, he said nothing about the head gasket! The regular mechanic suggested that it may be a blown head gasket. The car does drive, and the MAP sensor was just replaced. The only other symptom is that I can feel something a little bit off on the performance, especially when going up hill-- just the slightest hesitation, and slightly rough idling when stopped. Could my regular mechanic be right?
