I've worked on several. They are a pain in the butt!

1) The water pump is driven by the timing chain and is a real pain to replace

2) if the pump goes bad the chain can skip teeth and bend valves or pump the crankase full of water

3) They DO manage to get a lot of power from a fairly small motor, but this seems to make them not last that long

4) I have recommended several times to people not to buy cars with that motor. Mechanics hate to work on them.

Yes, the motor is fairly normal, but the timing drive setup is a nightmare. You must disassemble most of the engine to pull the head or work on the timing...or even change the cam. They are a true pain. Good luck.

yes--what is the problem you have-----if its toast i am looking for a couple of them for myself----i love the motor for what i use them for!!
