Buying & Selling - April 2007

I was interetested in an older van. They said it is runs so well.. but the insurance company said they never received the inspection papers. Her dad was a certified mechanic but didnt' feel he would do the inspection. I said I would just take it to the shop and pay for an insepection myself, as I didn't want to buy it without one. They refused and said it is not regisitered and didn't want me taking it out. I walked away... don't people usually let you get an insepction if they don't have it done...? These people tried to convince me that no one would just let you get an inpsection done before you buy it (I think they are trying to reel me in cause I'm a single gal)...

It should be a light color but not white.

I wonder where to get one. I don't like dealerships; they are dishonest and too expensive, but they do check cars out thoroughly....

It is basically a "one owner" car, has been serviced regularly and had any issues repaired, and highway miles are good for a car, right? At the usual 12K miles expected per year, a 2006 bought in late 2005 with 16K would be fairly normal, right? We leased a Honda Pilot in 2004 it now has 28,000 miles. We have the option to buy it for $19,000. The other choice is buy a new or used car. If we do in fact buy our Honda it will only be for a year or two (because my wife "can't" drive a 4 or 5 year old car). My main goal is to have as little debt as possible. What should I do, buy the Honda and then have to finance a new/used car in a year or just buy a new/used now?
