No, the customer is often wrong. I used to work as a cashier in a store so I can provide some examples of wrong customers, witnessed firsthand, to support my theory:
1. Customer bringing beer into the store- drinking whilst shopping
2. Customer continuing to shop until 9:30 even though the store closes at 9:00 and ignoring the pleas of employees to exit the store
3. Customer emptying packages of dog treats into her purse and leaving the empty bag behind, making her theft blatantly obvious
4. Customer pays with a $10.00 bill and when his change is given, insists that he paid with a $50.00 bill
Customer Service blows...

No customers aren't always right. I hate that saying because that is always what customers say. A person could buy some thing at one store, and then bring it to a different store (not of the same type) and try to return it. When you tell them it wasn't from the store, they will argue with you all day that they are right, but don't have the receipt. Many times people forget where they bought something, and in their minds they are right, but in some cases like that it might even be a product that the store doesn't even carry. SO NO THE CUSTOMER IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT!!!!!

Yep, that's the first rule of sales but obviously there are some customers who appreciate an honest sales person and you should be able to tell who they are. Wait for your customers to ask your opinion. If they don't like it you'll know soon enough. Whatever you do, don't start whining about your kids college tuition or your own for that matter. We, the customers are instantly turned off and turned away by that. Nobody buys a car from someone who's begging them to. If you believe in your product, it will sell itself. That should be the first rule.

No, the customer can certainly be wrong, but that message was designed for the seller, not the customer. The expression is meant to put customer service representatives in the mindset that they are there to serve the customer, and to assume that he/she is or will be right.

No but at any "JOB" you have to say they are to keep the job, make the customer happy. Some customers you'd like to tell them where to go when you know they are WRONG. Thank goodness it's only at your Job that this happens. No way can you live your life believing all of them & not yourself!

Yes, for the most time. I think it also depends how many/much a seller want to sell. But I think everything always has a limit...
