I'm sorry to all the auto mechanics out there but this is the best i can do with my lack of car knowledge....apparently from what i have been told, i blew the head gaskets on the engine in my 1997 Mazda 626 LX. Generally how much does this cost to fix???? and how long does it take to fix??? The reason why i'm asking is because supposedly my boyfriend's uncle is getting the car fixed by a mechanic friend of his who is going to cut him a deal on the price...he told us it would cost around $700-$900 to fix. like i said i know jack about cars i don't even know what the heck a head gasket is...i'm just afraid that my boyfriend's uncle or the mechanic is taking me for my money...please help me....if you need more info about what happned to the car just ask....thank you in advance for your help:)

I am purchasing a used car (not from a dealer). Is there any way to find out if repairs due to recalls have been accomplished in the past? Thanks

My Jetta was sitting on an angle for a week and when I came home and tried to start the car it would only crank but not start.

I have a computer and have checked for DTCs but there are none. The car was running fine prior to leaving it for a week.

Could this be a battery thing? Even though the engine is cranking if the battery amps are too low would this cause the engine to not turn over?

Thanks

I have a volvo s40 but its iving me problems so i want to replace it for something a little sportier/nicer. My two first choices are a 2003/2004 Saab 9-3 or Alfa 156 but both are renowned for poor/patchy build quality, but they are so damn good looking!!

I really cant see anything in that segment that looks as good AND is reliable. People who drive BMWs have no imagination so i dont want one of them and they are too expensive second hand anyway.

Any ideas? No american brands please by the way cause you cant get them here anyway.

PLz answer the above, and make sure you have enough proof and not just some statement. Saftey in terms of everything, rollover, side impacts, theft, etc...
thx

I just bought a nice 95 BMW 525i. I love it but can't figure out why there is not a bit of heat. When I start it the dashboard warning system says "coolant level" and "owners manual." But the coolant level is fine. I can't tell if the coolant is circulating, but it seems like the water pump must be fine, otherwise it would overheat. The temp gauge stays glued to the halfway mark. Anyone have any suggestions?
thanks a lot,
Scott

So I'm having a problem with my '93 honda Accord loosing all power at around 4k rpm's. Without going into all the details, fuel pressure is good, Air intake is good, replaced almost all the ignition parts, coil, wires, dist/rotor, etc. I've been told that its probably most likely a clogged catalytic converter, and I was hoping I could take it off and clean it out real good with some seafoam.

Heres the problem though, the bolts on the cat are so rusted, I don't think its possible to get them off, the whole joint almost seems fused together.

I came up with an idea and was wondering if it was good. Or if anyone has a better idea. I was thinking about drilling a small hole in the exhaust right before the cat, and spraying a whole lot of seafoam/deep creep in there (since they say its cat safe), and then sealing up the hole afterwards with some JB weld.

If not maybe I could unbolt the whole exhaust at the headers (which I think will be stuck together pretty good). What should I do?
