the Cleveland is a antique, the Winsor is the one to use, get a stroker kit and make it a 408 or even 427...

I have owned both 351C and 351W.My Cleveland's were great engines never a bit of trouble and good on gas. They did make a 351M (modified) for a few years which was junk.
It was just another under powered smog motor, really more a 400 than a 351,garbage.The 351W is the engine to go with today, you can still buy them new from Ford or find good ones in salvage yards to rebuild. The best ones would be the later POLICE 351W's but use older 69-70 or aftermarket heads on them, and not the junk heads they came with. With a W you can have a 427 that still looks and weighs like a small block.

351w, the Cleveland had better heads (that's where your power is built) but had it's share of weakness'. The Clev. heads used pressed in studs (easily fixed), thin cyl walls, and I've known of several cases were the crank would break at the balancer. The Windsors biggest problem was the heads, but now aftermarket heads flow better the the old Clev. heads. There are also plenty of stroker kits out there to take you up to and past 427 cid using the 351W block. Good luck.

They both are great engines. It depends on what you are looking for. Parts are scarce and expensive for the Cleveland, it was made for only 5 years. The Windsor has a great deal of potential as a torque powerhouse because there still are parts and upgrades available for it. In practical usage, I would choose Windsor, in theory and if you have unlimited resources, the Cleveland.

Cleveland were certainly more popular in there day, considered to be "bullet proof".

But they are old now, so if you can, get modern motor.

The Cleavland was well suited for high-rpm/ high HP duties, but it was known for lacking low-end torque (compared to the Windsor). The Windsor had more grunt and was better suited for truck applications.

there are more parts for the 351 w and CHEAPER BY FAR.try to buy a 351c crate engine. you can get almost any kind of horse power and torque for the 351 now, back in my day no one wanted the 351w.it was the big block we all wanted.

windsor they made many more of them, all the way up into the mid 90's. Cleveland was more for performance applications.

351 W is a copy of 302, which is trash. 351 C is better though the last year was 1974
