Water is used as a coolant for cars. Which fluid is used for jet engines? Someone told me it was water. Someone else told me it cannot be water because water freezes at higher altitudes. So which fluid is it?

Thanks!

P.S: I know air is partially used to cool down the engine, but i'm sure bypass air is not the only fluid cooling down the engine.

My beater 1990 BMW 318i has caused me no problems in the 6 months I've had it. Then when I tried to start it when it was low on gas, it wouldn't start. I assumed it just needed gas so I put in 10 liters (I'm stationed in Germany now). Still didn't worlk. Someone suggested I check the spark plugs and replace the fuel filter. I couldn't find the sparkplugs, so I changed the fuel filter. With the help of A LOT of starter spray in the air intake, the engine started up but quickly died?

Anyone know what is wrong with my car?

The picture in the manual does not match what I see under my hood. I see four plugs/hoses on the side of the engine, but when I pull them off I don't see spark plugs. There is a cluster of plus on the front that seem the right size, but I can't get them off. Any help?

I am new to boating, although I have been a vehicle tech for over 20 years. I am about to pull the outdrive off to check it over, replace the water pump assy, have a good look at the condition of all the bellows and grease the UJ and coupler splines.
All the manuals I have come across are of US origin and all state how imperative it is to use Quicksilver lubes as specified.

Now I have been greasing heavy truck UJs for years, which have covered 100s of thousands of miles without trouble, using normal EP2 lithium grease and since I have this lying around in large drums, am of the opinion that this should be just fine.

As for the shaft coupler splines, again I have also just used Molyslip in the past on various driveshaft splines without incident or stripped splines.

20 years of automotive experience tells me that these greases should be fine, but those manuals and my own ignorance of marine applications make me doubt my own experience.

Anyone had problems using auto grease?

I have a 16.5 foot fiberglass bass boat. It is a 1990 Sprint Pro Bass 266. I bought it in July from someone who hadn't had it in the water for a couple of years. Anyway, I keep it in a wet slip on the lake. Whenever I go out there, even if I haven't driven my boat, I can turn on the bilge pump and pump water out of it. I would estimate that I can pump about a gallon per day. If I go a couple of weeks, that bilge will run for a pretty long time before running dry.

I inspected the hull and there is one spot on the bottom where it has been pretty crudely patched with epoxy (about the size of my palm).

How can I tell if that is where it is leaking. Also, is it normal for a boat to take on a little water just sitting in a slip?

I will be installing a Detroit Locker in the rear diff. of my Excursion for better traction off road. I would really like to have true 4x4 and don't like the air lockers, cable operated lockers, etc. as much as the Detroit Lockers. The simplicity of the unit attracts me. How bad will be the on road performance with a front unit installed? Thank you in advance for any advice!

I can't find my loan paperwork right now, and until now I have been carrying extremely ample coverage, but I just got a speeding ticket and now I can't afford that coverage. I'm trying to get some other quotes but I'm not sure what I should be guestimating at. I'm with a Credit union if it matters, but I am guessing its pretty standard for these things?

I'm thinking of bidding on a 2006 2HP Honda 4 Stroke Outboard engine on ebay - The guy has filmed it running here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZBgD1AU0xU - The trouble is I assumed that 4 stroke engines don't produce any smoke, or very little. This one seems to produce almost as much as my old 2 stroke seagull !! is there a problem with this engine or is that a normal amount of smoke from a Honda 4 stroke?

I bought a 2008 Wrangler Sahara, and just received the license plates for it. I went to attach them, but there is no bracket or holes or anything for the front license plate.

I should also state that I live in Minnesota, where they require a front and a rear licence plate.
