I'd imagine the insurance is cheaper on the mustang. Truly I'm a ford fan but I would lean towards the corvette if they were stock cars. If I were looking for a performance car with a convertible top you would have to go with the cobra as they did make convertible cobra's. Me personally I love the mystic color paint jobs. If you find one of these the seat inserts are painted just like the body of the car is. You can easily make the mustang even faster if it isn't modified already. By adding just an intake, exhaust, x pipe, a different pulley you can easily beat the z06. You help the cobra lose some weight and this will help beat it as far as drag racing is concerned. It just depends on you, do you want the car to be ready to go when you buy it or would you like to spend a little more dough and add some simple modifications that will help this car out? The entire drivetrain of the mustang from what I've researched is quite bulletproof and many people on stock parts have achieved 600+hp. You put a blowzilla supercharger on that car not only would it perform even better, the sound the thing puts off is insane! If you are looking for a track car without modification the mustang can't keep up with the corvette. If you would like a rear seat though the cobra has you there....so really it depends on many things to you personally. If you would like extra space the cobra wins but if all you need is a space for some golf clubs the vette can do this.
Me personally I think if I were going to modify the car a little bit with say a 1k or 2k more I'd go with the cobra and have a beautiful car that hasn't lost much money from its initial purchase. And for 28k you can easily find one that has less than 30k miles and is flawless. Check out my favorite video on youtube below...

Who said anything about the newer ZO6 country boy.I would suggest test driving the ZO6 and the Cobra before making a descision. The vette is faster stock for stock in most cases but the cobra can be modded very easily to make a lot more power and it can still be a daily driver. This is a lot of money so you should drive both of them to see what you like the most and are comfortable in.I personally like the cobra for a daily driver because of the room and backseat.

And just so you know sfc4150,the newer Z06 shown in that video isnt nearly the same as an 03.About a 45,000 dollar price difference give or take along with around 100 more horsepower and alot more options with much different looks.

In all honesty for an every day driver it is not contest. The Cobra is the much better choice. If you look at consumer reports or jd power or any other place that gives you the repair and reliability records of vehicals, the cobra is much more reliable then the corvette. The 03 z06 corvette received "much worse then average" and "worse then average" repair ratings for its drive system, fuel system, body integrity, and body hardware. It got an overall rating of "average" The 03 cobra only received one score of "worse then average" and thats was for its paint. Everything else was either "average" or better and it received an overall rating of "better then ave". For 26-28k you can get a 2004 cobra with less then 25k miles and the 04 cobras have the best repair and reliability record of almost any car out their. They received consumers highest rating of "much better then average" in 11 out of 15 catagories with 3 of the final 4 being "better then average" and the last being "average" (body integrity). The 04 cobra got "much better then average" scores for its engine, cooling, transmission, drive system, fuel system, ignition, electrical systems, AC, exhaust, power equipment, and brakes. Now when we talk about speed, anyone who has spent any real time at the track will tell you (even the chevy guys) in stock form both cars run about the same 1/4 mile, the vette may be 1/10th or 2/10th a second faster. Vettes usually run between a 12.5-12.8 and the cobra usually runs between a 12.7-12.9 but it Evan Smith for fast fords and muscle mustangs ran a 12.43 in a stock 03 cobra and no one to date has run a stock 03 z06 faster then 12.5. The reason for this is that even though the cobras are factory rated at 390hp and 390tq, anyone will tell you they are very underated. When they are put on the dyno, it is shown that they are usually around 430hp and 430tq. I will paste a site below that explains this, just click on the site and go to the bottom of the page where it talks about the 03/04 cobras.

Stock is not where the cobras make there mark though, the cobras stock engine from the factory is a hand built 4 valve per cylinder dohc "built" engine. What "built" means is that the cobras engine has all of its internal parts forged. This allows the cobras stock engine to handle up to 1000hp without any modifications. The corvettes engine is not built, and is only a 2 valve per cylinder engine. For about 1k you can add smaller pulleys, catback exhaust, and a tune to your cobra and you will be making around 450-475rwhp which is equal to around 500-535hp. This puts your cobra in the 11 second 1/4 mile club. In order for you to add that kind of hp to the vette you would have to spend around 5k. (I am not including nitrous because any car can add nitrous for the same amount of money and get the same exact power) If you were to put 5k into your cobra, you could swap out your stock eaton supercharger for a kenne bell supercharger. Now you would be making around 617rwhp which is equal to around 700hp. This puts you in the low 10 second 1/4 mile club. I will paste a site below that explains how that works.

The z06 is an awsome car, and other then the 03/04 cobras I would chose the z06 over anything else. You just cant beat a car with a built engine and supercharger stock from the factory. It just gives you too many advatages for upgrades and reliability of the engine. Oh ya, the cobras have back seats the corvettes do not.

P.S.
Here is a video of a new z06 corvette against a 03/04 cobra with its only mod being that he swaped out his stock supercharger for a kenne bell, the exact one I wrote about above. Everything I have stated here is absolute fact with no opinion or fiction. If you make your choice based on facts instead of opinions, there are just more facts that support the cobra then the z06. The only way I would say to buy the zo6 is if you do not care about spending more money per repair, and have more repairs to do, more on the cost of the car, you have absolutely no need for a back seat, and you are not going to do anything at all as far as aftermarket goes, then in that case I would go with the z06 because generally it is about 1/10 or 2/10th faster and it does handle better in stock form. I just cant see any reason why you wouldnt take $1,000 from the $5000 or more you saved by buying a cobra instead of a z06 with the same year and milage and put that 1k into the cobra and be at least a full second faster in the 1/4 then the z06.

They didn't make the 427 cubic inch small block ZO6 505 hp. Corvette till 2006. Some ones trying to pull the wool over your eyes!

If in fact it's a ZO6 it'll hold it's depreciation much better than the Ford. Plus---------as you drive away from the Ford the only thing you'll see is it's head lights getting closer together.
