Just bought an '88 buick Regal from a private owner (for less than $1,000 so Lemon Law does not apply)...

We just found that the "Check Engine" light was on -- the seller had covered it with black tape (dashboard is dark, so we didn't see it at first).

As usual, the handwritten receipt includes the phrase "as is".

If there is a major issue with the car, do I have a Small Claims case, for deception?

Thanks!

Hi Folks,

It used to be the case, many years ago, that the police would not prosecute if you were up to 10% over the speed limit.

So 55mph in a 50mph zone was ignored, as old mechanical speedometers were deemed to be only 90% accurate.

I suppose that is no longer an excuse, even if I ride my 30 year old motorbike, which has always had a poor Smiths cable operated speedo.
Despite lubrication and adjustment, you just have to tap the thing, and it moves up or down a few mph.

Any notions ?

I have a Suzuki Katana. The manual says to only clean using Kerosene because the chain does not have a master link, and it has it's own grease in it's links. WD-40, for example would actually cause damage and break down these links.

My question is how do I clean the chain using Karosene? Do I soak it (for how long), or can I use a brush. After that what kind of chain lube do you recommend and where can I buy it?

The floor on my car had some rust holes.I cut out the rusted parts out, grinded everything to the bare metal. Now i need to cover the holes with some 3 mm thick steel plate. What should i use to bind it?I have an arc welder and i have pop rivets (blind rivets) It has to be one of these two optiones.
Not so sure, since wikipedia sais "Blind rivets are often avoided for critical structural joints because they generally have less load carrying capability than solid rivets. Furthermore, because of the mandrel they are more prone to failure from corrosion and vibration." Which one should i go for?Welding or riveting?Any other tips?

I just recently bought myself a Type-S and it's time for me to change my oil. I had an accord before so I was using conventional oil, about 4 1/2 quarts and I always picked up a filter from Honda. Does anybody have any recommendations on which synthetic oil to use and any specific oil filter? I've been thinking about using Royal Purple. Anybody know the typical amount of quarts a Type-S takes?

might have burnt out the fuel pump. as for the other things I

thing you need to take in and get worked on. i am sad to report that you may have messed up your fuel pump.

For those pilots who are familiar with the Cessna 172, here's the questions:

How does one best establish these two speeds? What I am wanting to hear, is there a tip to establish them, independent of Gross Weight? And in what situations would you use each?

Are these always the same as the ones in the POH? What about headwinds? Tailwinds?

And what about if a Check Ride Examiner pulls the throttle to idle - what speed do you choose?

my cousin has agreed that she would take over payments on my car, but she has very bad credit due to medicle bills so she doesnt want to have it refinanced because of the interest. i told her that if we cant get the car insured in her name then i cant do it because if she wrecks ill be the one who's screwed. is there any way we can switch everything over to her without having to get it refinanced? any possible ways to go about this at all without changing the interest rate?

I have a 1998 Ford Ranger, and one night discovered that my headlights no longer turn on. Months before, the knob to the headlights switch broke off and I have been using a pair of pliers to turn on and off the headlights, and I think this has something to do with it.
The parking lights and turn signals work. The Highbeams flash works, but not the toggle, so when I drive around at night I have to hold the turn signal lever back so I atleast have some lights (better to be rude and shine highbeams into everyone's face than to be illegal and drive without lights). I have checked all the associated fuses and none of them are blown. I went to a dealership and asked about a new switch, and found it to be 70$, so I would like to know if there is something more likely to be causing the problem than the switch its self.
