You need to know where the leak is coming from and repair this first surely, is it due to rain? water pipe? or have you done this, if so the time it takes to dry depends on the extent of the damage. Wait till it feels dry then give it a week. If you intend to repaint this it is possible that the damp mmay in time show through, in which case you may have to paint over again and again.

Depends on the type of leak.

Roof leak or concealed plumbing on upper level.

In most cases stop or fix the leak(from out side in) and it will dry out, then go and finish the work of getting the spot painted any time after it is dyed out, it is a simple visual and touch test. May need replacing the board or removing and replacing the plastered ceiling.

The roof leaks, the ceiling drips. Wait about a week if there is sun, fix the roof and patch the ceiling. There usually is not a lot of mold up there, it dries fast.

Yeah, you'll have to take out the wet dry wall, that'lll get nasty. same with any other non water resistant materials you used for the ceiling, i.e. drop ceiling. Then you should definitely call a plumber to help you out with whatever's going on. You should call a general contractor he'll help you with the first part and hook you up with a plumber.

that can be a challenge but you need to go on the roof to find the source first and stop the leak at the point of cause

It does help if the roof is dry so that any adhesive (tar, leak fix or whatever) you use will stick. First you need to find where it's coming from....

2 days. Then it will dry up and you can then safely fix it without it tumbling down and breaking your spine into 32 pieces. Hope I helped.

Right about the plaster board removal. Find where the water is coming from first and repair that.

Actually you'll have to knock out the wet sheet rock and replace it. Otherwise it will grow mold. Ick.
