I just recently bought myself a Type-S and it's time for me to change my oil. I had an accord before so I was using conventional oil, about 4 1/2 quarts and I always picked up a filter from Honda. Does anybody have any recommendations on which synthetic oil to use and any specific oil filter? I've been thinking about using Royal Purple. Anybody know the typical amount of quarts a Type-S takes?

(The dealer didn't have an owner's manual for me since apparently the previous owner lost it. So I don't have that reference)

Mobil 1 costs about one third less than Royal Purple. All NAPA store oil filters are make by Wix which are among the top three you can get your hands on. Stick to 5W-30 full synthetic oil and change it faithfully every 5,000 miles. If you plan on changing your own engine oil theirs a little racing trick you may follow. If your oil filter is located in a vertical easy to get to position. fill it with part of a quart of the fresh engine oil BEFORE you screw it back on. This prevents dry starts.

This would be an apples-to-oranges comparison. Each car was built to distinctly different standards. As mentioned, the RSX is an entry level luxury car that offers all of the time-tested & envied design & reliability that Honda (Acura) has come to be known for...it's a world apart from the SRT-4. The SRT-4, though a good dollar value for the cheapest, off the shelf, go-fast ride one might find, compared to the RSX lacks in most every significant area. First, the SRT-4 is (no longer made) Dodge's cheapest chassis...it's the Dodge Neon. Go to any auto rental & the Neon is right there with Kia...it's basement, entry level offering...the next upgrade would be a Civic. The SRT-4 represents Dodge's effort to muster some sales by bolting on a turbocharger, upgrading the brakes, and tacking on some cosmetic upgrades. However, the car suffers from lack of premier engineering, for a lack of build quality, lack of reliability, a very so-so interior, etc. Again, the Neon was an entry level economy car that sold for under $10K. An SRT-4 will be sitting in an auto scrapyard not terribly long after an RSX is broken in...you can put incredible miles on these cars. BTW, no car line offers as many performance modifications than ro Hondas & Acuras. There are oodles of aftermarket superchargers, turbochargers, body kits, catback exhaust systems, etc., for the RSX.

Check your oil cap, check your owners manual. But put in 4 quarts of castrol synthetic 5w 30. It's a very good oil and protects well. Hope this helps

Yes, it is. Make sure it is not a SALVAGED TITLE. Make sure all VINs are matching throughout the car. Make sure you know when the timing belt was replaced. And, of course, make sure you drive it. If the clutch is slippery and not grabbing gears quickly, the car was most likely driven hard and will need a new clutch in the future. You don't want to buy a used car then spend your time taking it back and forth to the shop. Other than that, I am stoked you found such a steal!

Use 41/2 quarts. And royal purple is great but its expensive. You can use any major synthetic. Q or mobil 1. They can go 5000 mile intervals for changing.

Almost all cars range between 4.5 and 5 quarts. Mobile 1 is an excellent synthetic and you can use any aftermarket filter available at your local auto parts store.

5w-30 Royal Purple is THE only way to go. Wix or Honda Filter is the best choice.
