I understand that for coolant you don't have to put just coolant? So is it safe to put water as long as it always isn't water when filling up? And when putting coolant, can I put it in straight from the container or should I mix it with some water first? I have Toyota Corolla if that matters.

So my husband and my dad look at it, my dad thought that it ran low on coolant so the engine just dump it from the overflow. So they used water to fill it. So saturday we drove round and went to ohio to the flea market. That night we left as soon as we got in to Kentucky the car started to over heat. So my dad and my aunt came out with coolant and water. The car was fine after that we drove all the way back to Tennessee. My husband used the car Sunday and it was fine all day too. Today I had to drive him to work so he could drop off his stuff (he leaving for the month for training for the army) so we could go to breakfast as I was waiting for him to come back out so we could go to breakfast my son had to use the bathroom so I turn off the car and took him. It only like 5 minutes and the car lost alot coolant again. Why is it doing that while the car is turned off?

So can my car run without it's turbo? It runs alot more SLUGGISH and my check engine light is on? I need advice????? I have asked everyone my options.

My instrument panel won't illuminate when I turn on my head lights in my 77 corvette. I've checked all fuses and it's just the instrument panel and tack and odometer lights. The interior-overhead light turns on and the headlights turn on with the same switch. I don't think its the bulbs because all are out and there are too many for this to be a coincidence. I have a 77 corvette.

I bought my car back in early March and it's only been recently that it's been acting up.

Sometimes when I start my car, the radio takes a few seconds to turn on. It'll sit there, dark and no music will come out of the speakers. Then it'll just come on like it had been on the whole time. It's only done this 3 or 4 times and it hasn't been consistant with how I start my car up.

Another time, I turned my car on and the radio was on a completely different station than when I left it. I had been listening to a CD when I turned it off and when I got in, it was on FM radio 2. No one messed with my car because the windows were up and the car locked.

What's going on with my car? Is it serious?

ok car has never had problems, I first get into the car put in reverse, drive out my driveway. Changes smoothly from first to second then when I slow down or even go straight I lose all speed and the car eventually stops, and when I press the pedal, it just keeps reving up as if im in park and it barely budges. Then I put in park, turn off car for about 30 seconds and it starts but then it wont switch to second gear and just keeps reving up, but I still managed to get it home pretty much rolling there, cause of the hill.Transmission fluid is a little brown, but I am pretty sure it is still good, no burnt smell to it or anything, just a little brown. 9000 miles ago tranny and motor was rebuilt so I dont really think it is either of those that is causing problems, people say it could be linkage or stuff like that,if there is some way that a person with a little knowledge of cars can do to check that, can you please tell me.If you think it is something else also tell me

My pops replaced an alternator for my Nissan Altima ('2001 GXE) yesterday and forgot to disconnect my battery before starting the procedure. Now the car electronics are dead. The car runs when I turn the ignition and drives alright (though the engine block vibrates alot more than we started. . . probably because the tensioner is not set to the correct length), but the dashboard, horn etc etc do not work. Does this mean that I just need to replace my fuses? Or is there more damage done than before installing the alternator? I am going to go to the parts store later today. Please advise.

Before my recent trrip to Iowa i filled up my tank in my home state of Georgia. My Nissan Exterra estimated i would be able to go around 330-370 miles before i needed another tank. I'm not sure of the exact # it gave but it has always been in that range when i have gotten gas.

When i got fuel in Ky my car now said i had 406 miles to go before a new tank. I was able to go to Iowa and back to the same station and get more gas as i had more then enough gas to last. Again the car said i had 406 miles to go. When i got home a few days later i had to get gas agian and this time the car said i had 396 miles remaing.

I know these #'s have never been this high in my car in the 2 years i have owned it. My question is what gives here, did they add something to the gas to make it more fuel efficant? Is this just a summer thing? If so why is it not year round, getting 30miles more per tank is a huge deal to me.

I've heard things that if your mixture is too rich, you won't get a lot of power and your engine will spit out fuel from exhaust.

If you put a lean mixture, you will waste less fuel but your engine might overheat and receive damage.

What mixture ratio if most efficient in terms of fuel economy without harming the engine?

i heard if you get a leak down test you can find the source of the low compression. Where can i have this done? Also, if they do find the source how much should i expect to pay. My car is VERY slow and has trouble driving up hills and what not. My friend has the same car and same year and his is WAY faster. Thanks!
