ok car has never had problems, I first get into the car put in reverse, drive out my driveway. Changes smoothly from first to second then when I slow down or even go straight I lose all speed and the car eventually stops, and when I press the pedal, it just keeps reving up as if im in park and it barely budges. Then I put in park, turn off car for about 30 seconds and it starts but then it wont switch to second gear and just keeps reving up, but I still managed to get it home pretty much rolling there, cause of the hill.Transmission fluid is a little brown, but I am pretty sure it is still good, no burnt smell to it or anything, just a little brown. 9000 miles ago tranny and motor was rebuilt so I dont really think it is either of those that is causing problems, people say it could be linkage or stuff like that,if there is some way that a person with a little knowledge of cars can do to check that, can you please tell me.If you think it is something else also tell me

Before you do anything drastic, change the fluid and filter to see if that helps...if not...Sounds like the Torque converter going bad, or the pump. My truck did the same thing and when I changed Torque converters, it was fine. Not a real big job, just make sure you have the right tools, 'cause some of the bolts on the bell-housing are a bit*h to get to.

If it's "a little brown" is is burnt.
Have you checked the fluid level, (see your manual)?
Two possibilities:
1. Cheap - Low fluid level - Fill it up & check for leak.
2. Expensive - Worn bands - Job for the shop.

brown trans fluid? something is burned. thats not good. fluid should be red. darker red means its dirty and needs to be changed. but it sounds like you have never changed the fluid. i would change it along with the transmission filter. might do a world of difference for you. good luck!

chech wat the people above me said.
but i dont think its something like fluid or filter.
same thing happened to my brothers car. we brough it to a mechanic to check it and he told us we'd need a transmission rebuild. but the estimate was around 300 bucks.
