My instrument panel won't illuminate when I turn on my head lights in my 77 corvette. I've checked all fuses and it's just the instrument panel and tack and odometer lights. The interior-overhead light turns on and the headlights turn on with the same switch. I don't think its the bulbs because all are out and there are too many for this to be a coincidence. I have a 77 corvette.

could be the switch. that or a relay or just a short. you may need to take your dash apart to figure it out. i restored a '76 Stingray and the same thing happend. ended up being the switch. good luck man! long live the Vette!

Check your fuses, first of all. It could also be a short circuit in your wiring...I had an S-10 Blazer that lost the instrument panel due to a blown fuse, and an old Chevy pickup that lost tail lights due to a short circuit BEHIND the fuse box (though with the layout of newer vehicles, I doubt that would be the problem). If it's JUST the dash panel and tail lights that aren't working, I'm guessing it's a short, which is kind of a chronic problem in Chevy vehicles (I've had several of them, and each one has had some kind of electical dysfunction)...if your front parking lights also don't come on, then I'm guessing it's the fuse...without having an owners manual to look at, I can only make an educated guess that turn signals and headlights are on a different circuit than running lights. If the fuses are all good, then I would look into the switch next, because if it's a short in the wiring, you're looking at a pretty agonizing process to find it. So try the simple options first.

Sounds like a short. I have the same problem in my car. Replaced the bulbs twice and they keep blowing.

I don't know the dash layout, but if it's a standard pull-out switch you may have twisted it accidentally, dimming the dash lights.
