I understand that for coolant you don't have to put just coolant? So is it safe to put water as long as it always isn't water when filling up? And when putting coolant, can I put it in straight from the container or should I mix it with some water first? I have Toyota Corolla if that matters.

The coolant my car uses is the red/pink kind... So should I go 50/50 with that or can I just put it straight in?

Some toyotas use red coolant American built Corrolas I think use green Glycol 50% water 50% coolant unless you purchased premixed by mistake. That cars entire cooling system might be less than 10 qts. Most people do not drain all the old out. So one gallon of 100% coolant put some in the bottle and add water pour the rest into the radatior then top up with water. It is a good idea to have some extra 50% mix around. And a clean bottle of 100% water in the trunk for emergencys for drinking or getting to a service station.

What year corolla? Old vehicles 50/50. If it looks green just add water to top it off. The coolant( that makes it look green) has the stuff in it to stop rust and corrosion.
New vehicles might need special coolant with 70/30. mix.
Read your owners manual. For emergency just add water and go.

First make sure you know whether you bought already mixed 50/50 coolant or just straight antifreeze. the premixed is cheaper and it will say "Premixed to 50/50!

if you have the premixed kind, pour it in.

if you dont, mix it with the same amount of water to make it a 50/50 mixture, or thereabouts.

Water only in a newer car system with aluminum parts is a bad idea. The water picks up aluminum particles from your cylinder head when the car warms up, and stirs them all around in the cooling system, when you stop they just fall wherever, plugging stuff, and leaving thin material on the cylinder head...

A little variance is ok, actually a lot is allowed!

50/50 solution of coolant and water. Or just buy premixed at a auto store. Never just put in water. Causes rust and corrosion and will mess up your radiator.

The simplest way is to mix it 50/50.
You can buy it pre-mixed or full strength. The optimum mixture really depends on your climate (see the back of the bottle), but 50/50 is good for all but the most extreme cases.
Plain water will cause corrosion and will not lubricate the pump.
