So many Americans on here moan about the price of gas, but how many of them are doing something to adapt and buying smaller cars?

I read a question on here about buying an ideal first car for a teenager and I was completely shocked to read the cars people were suggesting; Dodge Neon, Honda Prelude. These are considered family cars in Europe!

Are Americans starting to realise they will need to give up their SUVs yet?

I have a bayliner 2152 with a ford 351w engine. When I try to start it, it makes a loud click nose and sometimes spins a little. I thought it might be the battery so I replaced it but still it's a no go. No matter what the boat won't start. When I turn the key it tryies to but just can't turn over. What could it be? Thanks in advance.

If the timing belt breaks, will that event destroy the engine? I don't know for sure what type of engine I have, but I know some engines if the timing belt breaks the engine will not be destroyed, but I know in some engines the breaking of the timing belt wrecks the engine (example: 1980's models of the Ford Escort).

His birthday is a week before christmas, so the plan is to get him everything he needs for the bike, give him the bike for Christmas and he will be set to ride it. The question is:

What sort of bike should I get him? (He's 6'3" and weighs 15 stone ish)
What sort of courses will he need?
Can I get his provisional liscense for him in advance?
Does anyone have a moped for sale that would suit him? (I live in SW Devon and want something reliable)
What else do I need to know?

Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I'm about to haul this pile to the dump.
Seems to be fine in the winter, but overheats erracically in the summer.
*First time a replaced the thermastat. Still had a problem.
*Had a water pump and another therma installed plus radiator flush, same thing.
*Had an exhaust gases test done on the head gasket and it came out fine, mechanic thought the belt may be slipping, replaced the idler and belt, still overheats.
*Initially it seemed to be just when the AC was on, so we had the system checked and recharged and all was fine. Also checked fan operation and that was OK.
By irradically I mean one day we drove 80 miles stop and go with the AC on at 102 degrees and no problem. Today it overheated after 12 miles with AC and it's only 90.
Also, one time it will over heat around town but fine when you speed up, today it was fine around town and overheated after we got on the highway.
I did look under the car and the hose does not seem to be collapsing.
I'm stumped, anyone?
