RE:
How can you determine if a 1969 Camaro is an SS versus a clone???
Exactly what is a clone????

To tell if the camaro is a true SS you have to used the VIn tag AS well as the Body tag and the numbers are how you ID it being a true SS model.
As long as you know what numbers mean what for IDing this.

Clone is a car that was not orginally (IN your case) a Camaro SS model. For example.
People can put parts that were of SS on a regular camaro to make it appear as a SS model as in trim packages, SS hood, SS door panels , emblems Like SS itself a whole lot of things depending what the manufacture had availble for that model year

Good question. You really can't go off of VIN or engine. Think about how old this car is, thousands of things have been done to it. Look at it this way, Do you like the car the way it is? If so, do you really care if its a clone or not?? Lots of people take the stock camaro's, and the monte carlo's, and the chevelles, and add the SS trim and stuff to them. As long as they look good, it really doesn't matter. And personally, if you own one, you should love it. I would. As for what is a clone, its a stock model, with all the extras that came out either on the ss, rs, or whatever package they are wanting it to look like. I hope you find out what you are wanting to know...........

Check vehicle identification number for specifics about a single car. As far as overall, Camaros were built in both forms in 69. (as well as others) Z-28 or SS were a group of options that included upgraded suspension and engine as well as some trim pieces. To put it another way, the SS did not make the Camaro a different car, just a Camaro with different options.

Youcan take a regular ol' Camaro and buy all the badges and trim pieces, stick 'em on and call it an SS. That's a clone. Looks like, but isn't.

Findthe VIN (Vehicle Identification No.) '69 may be on the door or firewall - don't remember. Look it up on some motorheaad website and it'll tell you if it was original SS

A clone is one that people make to look like a SS, you should have a certain engine if it is an SS, also if it is registered they can tell you what the car is. Search of line for the sequence of the VIN, we did this for an impala. They had certain sequences in the number where some were the same for certain models.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

The SS had a 396 motor called the Rat.
If its got a 350, its a clone.
