I have no 401K or pension plan through my job, although I do have a salary redirection agreement through AFLAC whereby my insurance premiums are deducted pre-tax, I believe. I'm just afraid that the W2 is wrong and I'm going to have problems down the road from the IRS. I've asked my employer about this and they did not know (We're a small company and I believe an outside firm does the W2 for them).

My husband moved completely out of our home Sept. 20 last year. He is not the father of my 13-yr old child, I receive child support from her biological father. My estranged husband deserted us and does not assist me at all. He is not even in contact w/us at all, we don't even know where he lives. He left me to pay our $2300 pty taxes and my refund would be more than that, but way less if I don't file Head of Household to claim EIC. Am I allowed to file HOH and receive the Earned Income Credit?

I didn't file a MN return for 2005 because I didn't pay state tax because I used to be considered a nonresident (Active Military). They changed the law in MN (my legal state of residence) and it appears I had a refund coming to me. Am I still able to file a 2005 state tax return this late and collect the refund? How long do you legally have to file if you don't owe money or if you have a refund?

My husband's grandfather passed away many years ago, and we recently got some $ from German Claims program @ the US Treasury. His grandfather lived in Germany and was a schoolteacher there. I figured we would have to report this on our taxes. But I started doing our taxes today online and really couldn't find a place for it. I know I should probably ask an expert (like a CPA) but I was wondering if anyone knew.

I claim only myself on my W-4 (so that I don't owe as much at the end of the year), but when I file for my return, I claim myself and my son as a dependent. I've earned only about $30,000 this year.

If you can figure it out, great... Or, can you just tell me how to figure it out? I'm new at this... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i collected unemployment in the state of Ohio for part of the year in 2006. I received my 1099G form from unemployment. (the equivilent of a W2 form) This lists my federal income tax withheld on it, but i dont see anywhere on it anything about state tax withheld. Does Ohios unemployment system hold out state tax on your unemployment check? I was able to fill out my federal return with no problem, but without knowing how much i paid in state tax (if any) im kinda lost on the state return. Im worried now that they didnt take any state tax out and im gonna have to pay it all now.
Has anyone here collected unemployment recently? If so how do you work this in on your state return?

I am disabled and recieves disability income. I write content for a pay to blog site, made just over $600 for the entire year. Since I made over 600, I had to fill out a form and they sent me a 1099- miscalaneous. Everyone says I have to report to IRS. The money was nice to get, but I really consider this a hobby. Do I need to file? Will I be in trouble for not reporting the $55 a month to Sociall Security? If I can file, can I claim the EIC credit since the money was non-employee compensation?
Thanks for the help.

I understand that you can deduct loss of property due to a casulty that was not covered by insurance, but does that include the deductible?
For example, I had a car fire. The insurance company determined the car was worth $4,000 and cut me a check for $3,000 because my deductible was $1,000. Can I deduct that $1,000 from my taxes? Can I count the cost I paid for a rental vehicle?

I looked up my property tax info on the SD Treasury Tax site and found out that I am deliquient on my first payment and owe about $1800. I purchased this condo in late July of 2006 and I remember that the seller said I didn't have to pay property taxes the first year. Is this true? I have also noticed that everyone in my complex are also Past Due for their property taxes too. Is this a problem?
