Is there anything I can do?

Mom & dad just completed a refi on their home. They have paid off their bills and are debt free. They want to give me $60k as an early inheritance of sorts. I want to put the money in a money market account and keep it available just in case they need it a few years down the road. Mom wants it out of her name to avoid conflict with siblings just in case she passes unexpectedly. How do I receive this money without it being considered taxable income. After all, it will probably be going back to mom and dad eventually.

So, I filed my tax returns in early February and got my refund about 10 days later. Then a few weeks after that I got a letter stating that I was eligible for an EIC. So I filled out the paper and sent it back to the IRS in mid-March. It's now end of April and I have yet to get that refund! How long is it supposed to take? Has anyone else had this problem? Is EIC supposed to take this long?

i think my ex husband (final as of 3-16-07) may have filed MFJ or single on his tax return. In our divorce decree it clearly states that why BOTH must file married filing separate as we could not come to an agreement. I did turn in my taxes with status married filing separate in the mail right before the deadline. If he filed MFJ and is processed before mine, will that affect my refund and will he get caught filing incorrectly? On the form I filled out I did put his SS# as requested. I am not sure how could have filed joint without my signature unless he filed electronically some way, but knowing him there is always a way!

My wife recently left her job where she made around $35,000 yearly and now is going to be making somewhere around $18,000 yearly on her new job. We have filed seperately for the last 6 years because I make a cosiderable amount more than her and although I have had to pay in some, she has always gotten back around $3,000 and that is claiming my 15 yr. old son. Now she is claiming married with NO dependants (just as she had done at her previous higher paying job). On her last check she grossed $589. and they only held out $25.62 federal, $36.55 Social Sec., and of course $14.66 state. My question is....does the federal amount sound correct? It seemed quite low to me, and my fear is her return at the end of the year being drastically lower than normal. Please answer and feel free to provide as much detail or info as you wish.

i recently filed my 2002 federal income taxes for which i was owed $1036. i just received a letter stating that my claim was denied because it was past 3 years from when they were supposed to be submitted. this doesnt make sense to me that a debt owed to me can be erased over time. if i owed them money that hadnt been collected within the 3 years i am positive that my debt would not have been erased. in the letter it stated that i can dispute this denial of the money i am owed stating any laws or reasons that show i am still owed this money. besides the fact that i should have filed them on time, does anyone have any advice on how i can get this debt i am owed????

ON ONE ACCOUNT, we are umbrellaed under another business, they deal with the main tire dealership when we do a job for them , we dont get paid cash , or even a check we receive tire credits, on the labor we do . eventually we have an overstock of tires, because we do more account work than resale of the tires we receive. my question is can the fed. gov. tax the tires we receive on credits?, (un till the resale of the tires? )

I pay myself a salary each week from my weekly gross earnings and want to make sure that I am holding back enough to cover taxes. I am currently pay myself 2/3 of the gross each week and put the other 1/3 into an account for tax purposes. I am an independant clinical contractor and the area of holding out enough taxes seems to be bit hard for other contractors to get a handle on. So I am looking for any help I can get.

And if I work more than 30 hours a week, I would usually be entitled to benefits, right? What exactly do people mean by "benefits"? Health Insurance, Dental? Give me general examples.

With all the so called "we can reduce your IRS debt for pennys on the dollar" companies, obviously to good to be true. How does someone work with the IRS to resolve their debt without getting shafted or taken for a ride? Or worse, losing property or wage garnishment.

This is what H&R Block's website defines it as:

Ad Valorem Taxes Paid to Political Subdivisions

A refundable credit is allowed against income tax for taxes paid to Louisiana political subdivisions by a telephone company with respect to that company's public service properties located in Louisiana (R.S. 47:6014). The credit may be passed through certain legal entities to individuals. A schedule must be attached stating what entity or entities paid the tax and obtained the credit on the individuals behalf.

Now that we know what it means, how do I calculate it? Is it just what my mortgage company says I paid in taxes last year?

Can an employer pay for mileage, and then ask for it back at the end of the month?
I thought if mileage was paid it was declared to the IRS.
If so, how can an employer ask for it back?
(Legally?)

I'm doing my state taxes, and the form online asks for State Income Tax WITHHELD.

When I look at my W-2 I have something on line 17 that only says State Income Tax which is $316.58. Nothing using the word WITHHELD.

When I study my W-2 further, I realize they do use the term "withheld" for Federal income tax and Social security tax.

Should I enter this $316.58 as State Income Tax WITHHELD? or is that something different in which case I should enter zero $0.00?
