So, I filed my tax returns in early February and got my refund about 10 days later. Then a few weeks after that I got a letter stating that I was eligible for an EIC. So I filled out the paper and sent it back to the IRS in mid-March. It's now end of April and I have yet to get that refund! How long is it supposed to take? Has anyone else had this problem? Is EIC supposed to take this long?

Your first return sounds like an e-file. No one gets snail mail returns in 10 days!

It sounds like you'll likely have to wait 6-8 weeks, closer to 8 since you've tripped over the heavy traffic period of April 15.

You should take another look at your return. If you missed something as easy as the EIC, you may be eligible for something else. If you want to, post your information here and let some of these tax wizards look at it. There are at least a half dozen actively answering who give impeccable answers and they sometimes source their answers--Judy, Rob, Bostonian, and some others.

The web site is free, the advice is free, and you can file a 1040x (amended return) at any time up to 3 years after your first return to get more out of your refund.

The money belongs to you, not the IRS. Get as much back as allowed by law. That's my motto.

(Heck, for that matter, look at 2005 and 2004. Both of those are still open for amendment.)

It usually takes about 8 to 12 weeks for you to be able to get EIC. If you don't get it by the end of May I would suggest you to either call IRS 1800-829-1040 or go to your local IRS office

It would probably take 6-8 weeks or more, since it is outside the standard situation of being filed on the return. If you'd filed it in the first place, would have been faster.

Just be glad they let you know that you were eligible, so you'll get it - otherwise you wouldn't have had it at all.

Try www.IRS.gov They have a link to check on the status of your refund.

Next year try to remember to include it on your 1040.

Good luck
